My musical taste isn't so much shaped by the music that my parents used to listen, but by the era in which we lived when I was a teenager. We grew up behind the Iron Curtain, right before Soviet Union collapsed. Mine and my brother's teenager years remained to second half of 80's, when Perestroika has already started. People became more bolder, demanded freedom of speech. Young people were the most active in fighting for their rights of course, rebelling against former regime. It was the time when heavy and punk music were most popular in our country as it allowed to express their anger and frustration in the most convenient way. We couldn't buy records or tapes in stores, as foreign music was forbidden. But there was always somebody, who knew somebody, who could get you any kind of music you wanted. As headbangers despised disco and pop music, I were not listening that kind of music at this time. Young people tend to see things in black and white.

At the same time I were studying the piano in music school. So, my music taste varied between heavy and classical music. When I grew older I started to add many different genres, but rock music has still firm place in my heart.

I just started to think, we were really pain in the *** for our parents. 8 years of listening piano practicing must be torture by itself. But if add there the music me and my brother used to listen daily, and not just quietly in our rooms, we had powerful speakers and amplifier... we really have to give credit to our parents that they didn't go mad.

When growing up, I was introduced to sooo many different types of music, that it all got stuck in my head.
Everything from Beethoven, Chopin, Rachmaninoff, to big band music like Glenn Miller, to what became popular with top 40's. The limits have been endless as I see that I enjoy so many different genres of music.
