I think aerodynamic cockroach shaped hybrid cars with solar panel roofs will become the norm, and taller stretched versions for vans and buses.
Solar panel top up when out of town, underside pick up coils for under road power supply in town, various on board batteries and management systems, and a small internal combustion engine driven generator for emergencies.

With multi-fuel injection systems, engines can run just the same on any fuel, from ethanol to diesel, and whatever mix in between it detects in the lines.

But also what about all the disappeared efficient petrol/diesel technology, like the Saritch Orbital Engine; the high pressure/temp ceramic engines; the lifetime use batteries; and so on . . . ?
