The Ministry of Defence has confirmed that the Royal Navy's two new aircraft carriers have been named after the Queen and the Prince of Wales because, much like them, they are an enormous waste of money.

The cost of the aircraft carriers was originally thought to be in the region of £5.2bn, which is an amount the nation can definitely spare in the current economic climate, but the firms building the new aircraft carriers say the cost has risen by at least £1bn and possibly almost £2bn.

A MoD spokesperson revealed, "It seemed a fitting tribute that two people who have contributed very little to the country at the taxpayer's expense should have the honour of having their names put to what amounts to 120,000 tonnes of metal contributing very little to the country at the taxpayer's expense.

"Also, we'll be spending millions of pounds sending them to the far flung corners of the world for years to come, so the Royal symmetry doesn't end just with their manufacture."

Royalists have said they are delighted with the impact the aircraft carriers have on the country, insisting they do more good than harm.

Royalist Miriam Walters said, "People come from all over the world to have attacks launched at them by our aircraft carriers, we should be proud they're ours."

A Navy spokesperson concluded, "Of course, their main function will be to aim various weaponry with the intention of harming foreigners, which is why we didn't name one after Prince Philip, we thought that would be a little too on the nose."

This is another media bs subject. trouble is the media make themselves look stupid, one day they report how defence spending is cut then the next day they say we are spending to much!
The lefties were the worst at running down our navy. that's why we ended up with no aircraft carriers! This has been delayed over the years due to lefties bs when they were in power and cocking up what aircraft to have!
We need this and the other one due later . keeping up our side of things is important to our relationship with especially the us but also other countries.
On the grand scheme of things, it only holds around 40 aircraft and 1600 men, compared with the uss Ronald regan which has some 90 aircraft and 5000 personal!

Lol, it looks a good ship, despite some people moaning about cost and the usual anti everything brigade it's nice to see something good actually made in Britain!

that's a brand new ship, most of it's systems won't be in full operation for another year or two, once they are testing everything

Yes, it seems crazy, the planes are not even ready yet! I think it took 8 years to build. Then planning before that. This is what I was saying, labour government cut back on the specification so it got delayed then change and updated.
Catch up later moe.
