I sew for a living. I make medieval clothing. Went from being a teacher and paramedic to seamstress. Lol. And I love it.

I’m interested in sewing Renaissance Faire costumes. Any good patterns you can recommend to start with?

My daughter who loves to attend Renaissance Faire’s and dresses the part is suggesting I start making costumes for the Faire! Can anyone recommend a good sewing pattern to start with?

I sew still. When I was in the military I did the upholstery work on the vehicles, some bases were just patch jobs and some you had to take it all apart to make it look better than new...lol But since I had the sewing machine at work, I was the one who altered the clothing and sewed on the patches and stripes on the uniforms for people.

I do not do much sewing any more, but when you have long legs it is hard to find shorts that actually fit right anymore. In pants I have a 36" inseam so even getting the "past your knees" shorts they are never long enough. So I buy pants and then just hem to about a 15" inseam.

As far as Renaissance Fair stuff, I have helped some friends make things like buck skin pants and stuff. There are plenty of how-to videos online. You can even make chain mail from beer can tabs...lol

I still sew.. I've designed and sewn clothes for my kids growing up (until they got to the "ewww mom.. I can't wear homemade clothes anymore" age laugh).. I make sheets (flat, fitted & pillow cases), duvet covers, pillow shams, curtains, canopy's for my 4 poster bed that I designed and built.

I also make napkins, placemats, table clothes plus I upholster chairs and sofas..

so for me it's not a dying art.. I've also taught my kids and my granddaughter to sew & knit

forgot to add.. I had my own interior design & decor business where I designed & sewed unique linens & curtains for paying clients as well as designed spaces in their homes
