Myspace survey with some actual depth, just thought I'd share my views.

1. Are beauty contests harmful? If people get upset over petty things such as physical beauty they deserve the mental torment they inflict upon themselves.

2. Should Marijuana be legal? Yes, the legalization of marijuana has proven to lower prison capaity rates as well as other "hard" drug addictions, therefore legalizing marijuana would free up hundreds of thousands of dollars as well as lower crime rates.

3. Should abortion be illeagal? Absolutely not, it is the woman's choice to have the baby or to abort it, although after a certain length or time it is no longer abortion it's murder. Point of the story, if you choose not to use preventive methods then make a decision as soon as you know if you are pregnant.

4. Should schools be allowed to teach creationism alongside evolution as part of their science curriculum? No, this is one of the things the framers or "founding fathers" of our country decided on long ago and it still makes sense today. Separation of church and state is essential so each individual can form their own views on religion.

5. Should we create a database of DNA that can be used by police authorities in order to apprehend criminals? Yes, this would greatly reduce crime rates. I don't see a down side.

6. Should all school pupils be made to learn at least one foreign language? No, but each immigrant into our country should have to learn English until they can speak it so everyone can understand them. Que?

7. Should gambling be banned or severely restricted? I would say yes, but I'm not a big gambler so I could care less either way.

8. Should the government censor lyrics of songs that are violent or expletive, for example “gangsta” rap? No, and neither should the FCC. It's the responsibility of parents. There is such a thing as a "V-chip" people, look it up.

9. Should homosexual couples be allowed to marry? Yes, Marriage has been around long before Christianity came along and said it's wrong for homosexuals to marry. The Greeks of old practiced this act of companionship...

10. Should gays and lesbians be allowed into the armed forces? Yes, but they should be placed in a separate battalion then other recruits. Separate but equal...

11. Should HIV positive workers have to tell their employers of their status? Not unless it has anything pertaining to the job, such as if your employer is a pimp. lol

12. Should the minimum voting age be reduced to 16, or remain at 18? Honestly it wouldn't matter if they did. Statistics show that less than 20% of 18 year old registered voters go to the polls on the election day, that number would be even smaller with 16 and 17 year olds.

13. Do children have the right to know their biological parents? Yes, regardless of anything. A child should be given the opportunity to know his/her parents.

14. Should the religious slaughter of animals be banned? No, almost all religions have some sort of sacrifice ceremony to their god/gods. Once again, separation of church and state... (remember that adam sacrificed calves on the alter for god in the old testament)

15. Should schools require their students to wear a school uniform? Yes, this would reduce bullying and give poor students a chance to fit in.

16. Should children be given sex education in schools, or should this be the responsibility of the parents? Yes, less than 75% of parents ever have the "birds and the bees" talk with their children. It would make it much more comfortable, and it would be a fun class ^_^.

17. Should smoking be banned in public places? Yes, second hand smoke has been proven to cause lung cancer. People who have chosen not to smoke should not be subjected to it.

18. Should we ban or restrict the use of violent video games? No, not only is this based on ridiculas studies, it's against the 1st amendment and our bill of rights.

19. Should unemployed people be made to work for their welfare money?
Yes, 10 hours of community service a week sounds fair...

20. Should we ban the keeping of animals in zoos? My answer is yes, unless keeping those animals in a artificial habitat is going to save their species from over hunting, poaching, and extinction.

HoRaHH! Put that in your pipe and smoke it! =D... ~Xander29

You will find that most states have work requirements for any type of welfare. You should also think about the fact that the minimum wage guarantees that welfare will always be here. As long as employers are allowed to pay less than a living wage, the government will pay the rest.

Welfare is a government program that is in place to allow companies to keep their wages low and increase their profits...nothing more

What about the people who need welfare just for short-term to help them get through difficult times in-between jobs?

Here in Indiana there is no work requirements to receive welfare.

There usually are stipulations for that. The recipient generally has to show proof that they are actively seeking employment.

1. Beauty contests aren't worth a cent.
2. Pot shouldn't be legal, because the government would make money off it and why should they get any more money?
3. Abortion should stay legal, otherwise people will be dying in the back streets, as has happened in the past.
4. I disagree completely with evolution, altogether, so I'd pass on creationism, unless it's Bible based completely.
5. Yes.
6. No. Unless someone is going to move to another country, don't shove that crap down their throats. However, all people who want to live in the U.S. need to speak it clearly and know what each word that they use means.
7. Neither. Why isn't prostitution banned?
8. Yes. "Rap" (or as I call it, rap crap) needs to go. In only encourages violence and that's been shown time and time again.
9. No. The Bible is against homosexuals and they shouldn't be allowed to marry or have the privileges of marriage. It degrades the normal marriages.
10. No.
11. No. You have a good point, unless it's job related, they shouldn't be forced to. Otherwise, it will just be another discrimination an employer would use.
12. 18
13. Yes.
14. Not sure about that one. I haven't studied it.
15. Absolutely not!! Toledo Public Schools forced "jail" uniforms (as I refer to them as) on children and the kids now do worse in school than before uniforms. Fortunately, my daughter's not in that school system anymore. Also, Toledo Public currently has a wonderful (ha ha ha) D grading. They mistakenly assumed uniforms would stop gangs. Not hardly. And it has done nothing for bullying, which continues.
16. That shouldn't even be a question. It's a given that good parents teach their kids, not the school system.
17. Yes. As a person who is allergic to smoke, I have to avoid it at all costs, plus my daughter has asthma.
18. Violent video games should be outlawed. They, like "rap crap" music encourage violence in some people.
19. Give them a job instead! Community service, which is great, doesn't pay their bills.
20. No. Animals in zoos can be safer than if they are out in the wild, many times.

in response to number 9 from romanticsouls... 1)i thought there is supposed to be a seperation of church and state in america
and 2) just because the bible is against it does it mean that they are not allowed to have the same human rights as "normal people"

Indiana has a program called "Impact" it is a job program that goes along with the TNAF(welfare) program in Indiana. Residents are required to participate in this job training and job finder service to receive benefits in Indiana.

Here are the views from a 43 year old

1. Are beauty contests harmful? Only if taken to extremes. Should be kept in context of shallow play as it is.

2. Should Marijuana be legal? I don't care one way or the other. It is very common, it helps people with pain, I could legally have it myself, but choose not to, as I do not personally like it.

3. Should abortion be illegal? Absolutely not. When all the prolifers adopt all the unwanted children in the world today and the adoption agencies have no more babies to hand out, then talk about.

4. Should schools be allowed to teach creationism alongside evolution as part of their science curriculum? Creationism is not a scientific study, it is a religious belief and should not be taught as not all children are christian or religious for that matter.

5. Should we create a database of DNA that can be used by police authorities in order to apprehend criminals? See no problem with it.

6. Should all school pupils be made to learn at least one foreign language? No requirements but it should be encouraged as the world is getting smaller by the day and one may have to converse universally one day. No, to making english the official language as it is already and no need to hash it out.

7. Should gambling be banned or severely restricted? No, personal choice.

8. Should the government censor lyrics of songs that are violent or expletive, for example “gangsta” rap? It is the parents responsibility to control their children. Censorship should not be allowed at any level. Ratings are good for parent to know what is going on. If we start censorship there will be no end to it and our freedoms will be breeched.

9. Should homosexual couples be allowed to marry? Yes, christians do not have the monopoly on marriage. Marraige is personal and should be allowed for anyone who wants to do it, within age requirements.

10. Should gays and lesbians be allowed into the armed forces? Yes, and no separation, they have been on the earth since the beginning of time. They have been everywhere so why limit them now.

11. Should HIV positive workers have to tell their employers of their status? No.

12. Should the minimum voting age be reduced to 16, or remain at 18? No.

13. Do children have the right to know their biological parents? In most cases.

14. Should the religious slaughter of animals be banned? Falls under freedom of religion. I am an animal lover so it would be hard for me to take but I would not want to restrict others in their beliefs. As long as human sacrifice is not allowed.

15. Should schools require their students to wear a school uniform? Uniforms are a good idea, I have always believed

16. Should children be given sex education in schools, or should this be the responsibility of the parents? Yes.

17. Should smoking be banned in public places? Yes, unless the proprietor makes a place for them that is closed off.

18. Should we ban or restrict the use of violent video games? As long as they are rated and adult allowed to buy the graphic ones no

19. Should unemployed people be made to work for their welfare money?
This was already instituted by Clinton, welfare reform already requires community service and schooling etc...

20. Should we ban the keeping of animals in zoos? No, it will soon be the only place some species will live.

I find it very reassuring that so many of my beliefs are shared by the much wiser generation, thank you for your input Dragoness.

P.S. Clinton was the best president of my time, not only did he balance the national budget he also introduced many programs that will stay in affect for generations to come.

1. Are beauty contests harmful? I don't know about harmful. Archaic and pointless, sure. On the other hand, how often do I get to see women in swimsuits? (Disclaimer: I haven't watched a beauty contest in years and, in general, I don't find that sort of woman attractive anyway.)

2. Should Marijuana be legal? No, a drug is a drug and I have seen it harm people.

3. Should abortion be illeagal? No -- no one has the right to tell a woman what to do with her own body, not even (especially) the government.

4. Should schools be allowed to teach creationism alongside evolution as part of their science curriculum? As long as they also teach the theory that earth rests on the back of an infinite stack of turtles, sure. Fairy tales should not be taught under the aegis of "science."

5. Should we create a database of DNA that can be used by police authorities in order to apprehend criminals? Seems a little draconian, but will probably happen sooner or later anyway.

6. Should all school pupils be made to learn at least one foreign language? Forced, no, but they should have the option.

7. Should gambling be banned or severely restricted? I'm not a gambler either, but I wouldn't ban or restrict it. It has its uses.

8. Should the government censor lyrics of songs that are violent or expletive, for example “gangsta” rap? Oh sure, the most important thing is to shield everyone from REALITY. Lord knows the world will end if some kid hears a 4-letter word on a CD that he has probably heard a million times at school already.

9. Should homosexual couples be allowed to marry? Yes, although why ANYBODY in their right mind would want to be married is beyond me! But I have a bias.

10. Should gays and lesbians be allowed into the armed forces? Why not? Can't they have the same patriotic ideals that straight people have?

11. Should HIV positive workers have to tell their employers of their status? I think there are a lot of jobs where this wouldn't necessarily come into play.

12. Should the minimum voting age be reduced to 16, or remain at 18? As an anarchist, I really don't care one way or the other.

13. Do children have the right to know their biological parents? Definitely.

14. Should the religious slaughter of animals be banned? Ideally, religion should be baneed. I don't suppose that's going to happen anytime soon though. It does give us a unique window into the mentality of the 14th century though.

15. Should schools require their students to wear a school uniform? Nope, that's just one more example of conformist indoctrination. Although, that's all the public schools exist for anymore, anyway. They certainly aren't doing much in the way of teaching.

16. Should children be given sex education in schools, or should this be the responsibility of the parents? Just let them see that filmstrip I saw in seventh grade.

17. Should smoking be banned in public places? Only insofar as they are given an area where they CAN smoke that is not outrageously inconvenient or punitive. They have been regulated enough as it is, and they are still people and should still be treated like people and not lepers. Let's ban alcohol if you want to do something that would be a positive for society. Nobody smokes a pack of Marlboros and then plows their car into a school bus full of kids.

18. Should we ban or restrict the use of violent video games?
Seriously? We should ban forks because people can poke themselves in the face.

19. Should unemployed people be made to work for their welfare money? Seems reasonable unless they are disabled.

20. Should we ban the keeping of animals in zoos? I love zoos but I have to admit that the idea is speciesist.

Thanks for the input Lex. It was a very interesting read. I agree with you on the issue of religion, as an agnostic myself. Especially I agree on your views of censorship.
On the subject of Public schools, I would have to agree I gained most my knowledge from books and the internet and not from classrooms.
