To you, loving family, I bid farewell,
And you too, faithful friend.
For leave you all I will,
As I feel death close at hand.

The call is unmistakable and grave,
And life had long lost its charms.
Willingly will I step into my grave,
And melt in the embrace of its inviting arms.

So, mourn not and shed no unhappy tears.
What you've already shed for me is enough.
Sadly as I have lived, I deserve your cheers
To be my peaceful grave's epitaph.
(Poem published in my book of poetry "Disappointment" in 2002. It's copyrighted to me. So, no problem with that.)

I understand this feeling to well. Some days I smell the stench of death sitting on my shoulder, picking at my rotting thoughts, and I know my time is close.

Indeed! Sometimes, you can almost feel its cold fingers caressing your skin and its filthy breath on your neck.
