What always surprises me to see with UK police series is that when a suspect is interrogated his/her lawyer can't do anything much other than sit there. But apparently in the UK they have little power to intervene.
Whereas in US movies/series you see the lawyer having more power, potentially saying, "If this is all you got we're out of here." and then indeed leaving with the suspect.
Or telling the police off when they're out of line.
And you often see the police getting stuck because someone has lawyered up and they then can't do anything much anymore.
At least that way a lawyer can protect his client.

I guesstimate neither will be perfect systems but to be honest, the American one seems more just. What you see in the UK series is the police stepping out of line and getting close to harassment. And apparently a lawyer can't do anything to stop it.
Always makes me wonder what the point is of even having a lawyer. Why bother?

I'm not 100% certain but I believe over here it's more like the US system.

I wonder if this gap in justice and doing things is really this great in real life, but I think so as they try to stick to reality as much as possible in movies/series.

Never trust a Hollywood movie to portray how things really work... Everything is sensationalized.

In the US you are presumed to be innocent until you are proven guilty in court (Even though Social media has you guilty once accused until you are proven innocent and even then they still think you are guilty) And you do not have to talk to the police when interrogated as you can stay silent or you can have a lawyer present to help you answer questions. Basically, the Lawyer helps you to not incriminate yourself if you really did do something and are answering questions...

And if you are not under arrest, you do not have to sit and talk with the police. You can really walk out.

Just a slightly different approach to the judicial system.
