In the world, as it is today, no such society could exist for long.

I actually tried living a back-to-basics lifestyle myself years ago. Well, I did more than just try. I did succeed for a while. But it was quite an effort. Not the lifestyle itself, that was actually quite enjoyable. The ‘effort’ was trying to live like that in today’s world.

I had to deal with today’s building ordinances and laws, etc. Where I live it’s actually illegal to build a building without a ‘proper foundation’! I mean, it’s just not possible to live too simply in a place where the law demands that you don’t live a simple life!

I was actually able to get around that law by using screws instead of nails to construct my buildings!

YES! It’s TRUE! Just goes to show how stupid laws can be!!!

If I used nails the building would be consider to be ‘permanent’ and therefore by law must have a proper foundation. However, if I use screws to put it together then it’s consider to be a ‘temporary’ building and is exempt from the ‘proper foundation’ law!

How silly is that???

So that’s how my place got all ‘screwed up’! laugh (local joke there)

Abra, of course, you are absolutely correct when you suggest that such countries would have to evolve. But every country has begun somewhere, by someone.

How would a group of people 'begin'? In other words, imagine a world coming out of some massive chaotic event. A group of like minded "enlightened" people have taken on the task of structuring a society that CAN evolve into that ultimate country.

How would such a group create a governing body, how would such group 'guide' by it's choice of laws. I wish I would have set that up from the beginning. Guess I knew what "I" was thinking so forgot that no one else did. ohwell

Where do I sign up??

Lee - there you are. I was so hoping you would come and shed some light here. I really agree with so much of what you say. I do see some flaws, though, and being that I don't follow any particular 'path', I'm wondering how to mend them.

Who governs? Why is that required? Allow people to be their inner Self, their ALL and there is no need for a Figurehead for thought.

There must be some measure of respect given to a person, before others will want to emulate them. And as 'creative' said early on - there will undoubtedly be a 'Lord of the Flys' syndrom. Someone wants to lead to higher ground, another wants the opposite direction, and power struggel ensues.

Then there is always that incident where a person is willfully harmed by another - some 'action' must be taken - who would determine the 'best' course of action?

You see, there will always be followers, and although leaders are seen less often, there will be power struggles. I think it would be wise to have ONE, respected and trusted to be the 'voice' when there is dispute.

Am I wrong in these thoughts? Lee - do you really believe that given enough time a country could develop in which no governing authority and no laws were necessary?

I really, believe it can be done - Tibet was successful. The trouble comes form 'outside' the close knit society. When the world become open for all to see and experience, that is when I think, that no country could survive without government and laws.

Di, my belief, my understandings, my experiences, is when another is harmed, by an enlightened person's actions, there are no requirements for an outsider or governing body to rectify the situation, or to 'punish' the wrong doer...they rectify it themselves, through being 'conscious'or 'enlightened'.

In reading the responses here...I am beginning to suspect you are asking of other posters how to 'fix' THIS society, these societies.

To find a way to undo, that which has been done.

There is an example I wish to share with you, of where my mind takes me... with your questions...

Once a year for the last 11 or so years, there has been a gathering of like minded, consciously aware people, enlightened, for want of a term, for a week long celebration, it is called the Woodford Folf Festival, and from humble beginnings has swelled to 130 000 visitors.

There is a management committee, yes, even a police presence, to conform to external societal obligations. What do the police do? Wander around for a week with nothing to do, but enjoy the ambience.

It is a given that all are welcome, with one precept...cause no harm, to the land, to the peoples, and to the animals that reside there.

And it works.

The Woodford Folk Festival own the land that it is held on, and the profits from the Festival, go towards reclaiming land, and replanting the new land with plants indigenous to that region.

It is a communal space, and although only a week long celebration, the 'pay it forward' from the festival lasts and sustains, and contributes to the wider community, with ethical workers, ethical and enlightened, 'families' bonded, and strengthened in contributing to a healthier society at large.

It does work... although trying to 'fix' the damage done, has taken a long history to be broken, so cannot be repaired in one lifetime.

I have lived within communites on communal land, with no 'governing' body, and it works when all have an 'enlightened' common goal, to live peacably together, with other people, the land, and the creatures that reside on that land, and depend on the land for their survival.

Small steps... in a positive direction.

The naysayers, and the 'idealistic' poopooers, are veiwing this concept, from a negative perspective...the whole 'people are no damn good' and it's all impossible.

It does work...one person at a time...starting with Self.

We all have an impact, an impression, we leave on others, even with a tiny portion here, in this community, the Projections thread is witness to that..

Why not make it a positive one, think more of what you can GIVE, and less of what you feel entitled to GET, and the world turns more gently.
