Topic: Don't wanna be a mom anymore.

I am so tired of doing it all alone. Everything I do is for my son and I get nothing in return. No respect, no love, no help. His father lives hundreds of miles away and I wish I could send him there. But my son has a learning disability, and my ex husband is nearly illiterate and couldn't do anything to help my son. I suffer from depression and anxiety, and how can I raise my son as a productive and caring person when I can barely take care of myself. I wanna give up.

u sound like u know u made a mistake in having your son
so now u shouldnt make the mistake again
but u should also realize that his happiness is now urs
making him happy should mean everything to you because he is practically a part of you
he depends on you for everything, and u are his world
he gives u much more love than a lot of other ppl ever will

Sharon, i am also a mother, of 5 children (single as well) I do suffer from generalized anxiety disorder, and depression. It was against all of who I am but i take a medication called effexor xr 75 mg. It helps balance me enough to live a somewhat normal life. I'm def not happy about it but its what i need to do so my kids can be happy and be raised the way they need to be.
I have thought of giving up financially as well, but i got myself a decent job as a server at the cheesecake factory, i make close to 800 a week cash working 5 1/2 days. There are so many ways to get around the hells of being a single mom, DONT FORGET TO ASK FOR HELP!!!! I'm here for you if you need to talk, talking is what gets the anxiety out!!!!! The anxiety and misguided imagination may be what's making you think you don't want to raise your son, I wouldn't do anything silly until you seek help wether it be therapy medication or anything else.
I hope I can be of some help!!!!
Michelle

He is nearly 18 years old, when does he become responsible for himself? I can't do it all for him forever.

dont give up sharon. you are strong! believe in yourself! go to my threat in parenting advice i just posted about funny how it comes around. then i wnat you to REPEAT AFTER ME when you read it!!! you are a wonderful person. it hard, i was a single mother, even harder with a son with a learning disability. there are programs out there to help. help with him and help give you a break. i work in outreach so i know. please...hang in there. some days get so bad that you dont know if you will make it, but you will. we as parents pull thru at the end of the day, somehow we find that inner strength and always know im here for ya babe!

do his disabilities affect the way he lives his life?
if his behavior is like every other 18-year-olds, then its time to let go
my parents always told me when i hit 18 i was making decisions for myself
part of being a parents is letting your kid fall, and helping them get back up

I remember those days, and the fact that I can remember those days should give you some hope. We make it through.

I went to the doctor for pain and found that I was depressed. I wasn't doing anything for myself. Use the time away from him for something healthy and positive for yourself even just a walk without the kids when you have someone to sit for a minute is good. I learned to take the time that they were in school to do positive things for myself even if it was just a long bath. A self beauty treatment. Using an exercise tape and working out for 30 minutes. Take those opportunities to help yourself. We are the guardians of our own mental health and soul, so you must do for yourself when you can. Stay strong.flowerforyou
