Standing Outside the Fire by Garth Brooks

We call them cool
Those hearts that have no scars to show
The ones that never do let go
And risk the tables being turned

We call them fools
Who have to dance within the flame
Who chance the sorrow and the shame
That always come with getting burned

But you got to be tough when consumed by desire
'Cause it's not enough just to stand outside the fire
We call them strong
Those who can face this world alone
Who seem to get by on their own
Those who will never take the fall

We call them weak
Who are unable to resist
The slightest chance love might exist
And for that forsake it all

They're so hell bent on giving, walking a wire
Convinced it's not living if you stand outside the fire

Chorus:
Standing outside the fire
Standing outside the fire
Life is not tried it is merely survived
If you're standing outside the fire

There's this love that is burning
Deep in my soul
Constantly yearning to get out of control
Wanting to fly higher and higher
I can't abide standing outside the fire

Repeat Chorus(twice)

Garth rocks... there's not a Garth song out there you can't take the lyrics from and apply them somewhere, somehow, in your life be it present, past, or future. You're right, Suzanne! drinker drinker flowerforyou flowerforyou

I just don't like him. I saw an interview with him where he went on about this song "Unanswered Prayers". It was supposedly about how he was so thankful that he got to meet his wife. The next thing I know, he's poontanging around with that fat Trisha Yearbrooke or whatever her name is. So much for being thankful that he met his wife.

I wrote a whole paragraph or three about people missing the point and narrow mindedly focusing on one aspect of something. I deleted it. <shaking head> They don't get it...

I agree he did get together with Trisha Yearwood kinda fast but that doesn't change the fact that a lot of his songs are touching.

i agree lizard King....

i was country way way before country was cool

country has gotten very glitzy over the years
and gotten very very very watered down ...

i like country rock and bluegrass and folk

over a lot of this stuff they call "country"

you have to be country to understand the country

it's like not being able to truly sing the blues...

unless you have wholeheartedly been there
