How do you feel about putting children on leashes?

at a shoping store like walmart,,,,,it needs to be done,,,or don't let th kids have so much sugar

When my son was small I used one and put it around his wrist...it was called a Child Leash and it made him stay in check....would use one again if I had another child.....too many freaks out there now days......

I think if they're really young, it's okay because it keeps them from running off and getting lost, or kidnapped or something. But as they got older, obviously, it would be degrading, and just plain lazy parenting because kids should learn to listen and not run off, etc.

I agree with you guitarhero....we lived in D.C and he was only 2 so yes I used it until he knew what staying with the parents meant....

And when you are naughty, and don't walk to heel nicely??

I agree with the leash thing but it should be a mental leash. You shouldnt let your kids get so out of control that they need a leash. Its that da*mn timouts. It puts into the kids head the thought of, oh I get in trouble I sit in a corner for a while thats not so bad. What ever happened to the good old days of, you mess up you got a whippin.

they have their place.

it's a safety issue, and there are children that absolutely need to be on them. an autistic child, for instance...in a public place...they still need their exercise, but they don't always "get" that they can't run off.

i asked my mom what she thought of them (one of the top child psychologists here, as well as a board certified behavior analyst) because i was disturbed upon seeing one...and she said that they are definitely worth it in certain children.

sometimes, the crowds are just SO thick...and parents only have so many hands. also, they make them cute and comfy now, like backpacks, with cute little stuffed animals on them so that the child WANTS to wear it.

I think it's a great idea for small children. With all the preditors running around and such.

Well here's my opinion. I absolutely hate when I see small children being treated like a DOG. My friend and I went to the Mall a few weeks ago. I saw 3 or 4 small children on leashes. It really bothers me to see ppl treating their children like this. If parents teach their kids to listen and obey, then, why should there be a need for LEASHES????????????????????
When I was a child, my parents took me and my sister many places. We weren't put on leashes. We stayed with mom and dad, because we were TAUGHT to do so. PARENTS, just teach your children, and they will LEARN. I know goodness well, when my daughters have children, they will never be put on a leash.

It's fine, as long as the kid is wearing a flea collar.
