what do you think about the recent recommendation of the lawyers to
recommend the death penalty for the GI's accused of murdering the men at
what their orders said was an AL QUEDA training facility

that was the thing, there orders were to go to this training facility
and to kill every military aged male. when they got there they were
attacked and the gi's killed all of them and now the government wants to
put them to death for following the orders they were givin. i think it's
bullshit, you can't give a soldier an order and hold him responsible for
carrying it out

I think that is retarded.

OK, I am in the AF, and there is definately something as an illegal
order... that being said, you need troops to follow orders. This will
simply set a very bad precendent if it goes through.

if it was an illegal order though shouldn't the one who gave the order
be responsible?

technically both are responsible. There is this thing called LOAC,
which stands for Law of Armed Conflict and all soldiers are briefed on
it. Just because you get an order, it does not mean you are exhonerated
from using good judgement. But again, the death penalty is ridiculous.

i understand that but would be the LOAC on an order to go into an enemy
trainig facility? the soldiers involved said they were attacked and that
it was in self defense

I don't know enough about the case. But honestly, if that is true, they
are going to get off easy.

i hope so. it's admirable that they made all these rules to war to
protect the innocent but where is the justice for all of the countries
that don't practice it? i remember an issue way back that US troops
were shooting at their mosques but the damn fighters were using them as
sniper nests, what kind of idiotic shit is that
