Can't find what I was looking for, but will continue searching. This is an attempt to understand why a soldier does what a soldier does under the harsh conditions during wartime (any war, they've all had the handfull of bad events). There was an excellent paper written on it I believe titled "Psychology of a Soldier", I am unable to find it but it was written by a vietnam war-vet that became a PHD in psychology. This was an excellent insight on why a person who seemingly is a honest, good hearted, and well natured person chooses to do things against his moral code. This is not an attack on our service members, as I've stated in the past I have absolutely no problem with any of you but given the topic I figured I would hunt about. I will continue searching for it until I come across it and put up the link.

Don't think this is it but it is a good one too: http://books.google.com/books?hl=en&id=S9FBx-izjv8C&dq=psychology+and+the+soldier&printsec=frontcover&source=web&ots=nX2k8dYT7v&sig=95MhFtzjJyc3sI4JmPemzv0oIIQ#PPP1,M1

There are several elements one must think of when deciding whether or not to attack a soldier that has done wrong; one, take into account that said soldier hasn't seen his/her family for quite some time; two, social interaction think if you had to deal with the same thing day in day out; three, brothers the men beside you the men in front of you the men behind you and you with no control of what happens when you turn the corner. These are all very important elements when guaging the psych of an individual, even the most wholesome young boy can turn bloodthirsty in a time of war. Generally this does not happen due to the psych evaluation done before entering the armed forces, but as with any evaluation what is normal on paper down the road can lose quite a bit of that same moral code.

i think you will find that most soldiers aren't blood thirsty warmongers (not saying that you you implying this). Most are professional and have developed a certain callous to deal with terrible situations. Yes these situations are extremely stressful and to those that are new to the scene they do experience many extreme emotions such as fear, sorrow, anger, etc. War is a terrible and immoral thing, soldiers, for the most part, do what they can to include as much morality in a very serious, very immoral situation. God bless every one of them. They are the ones with the guts to step up when needed and if it werent for those willing to deal with terrible situations (meaning harshly dealing with predators of any species) the human race itself would not exist.

ok, first of all... these pictures aren't anything close to "new"... they're quite old in fact. Second of all, some of those are pictures of what these people do to themselves... rolling around in their own feces, stripping down and hanging upside down, crazy **** like that. There are many other things that I just can't go into, but to say the LEAST 90% of this crap is blown WAY out of proportion.

I am glad the military tribunal who found our men guilty took them seriously and convictions handed down. I hae to wonder had those pictures not gone public would it have stopped?

you are quick to hate us.....look at some pictures of our own prison. You will see that you are looking WAY too far into most of these. yes, they probably got jail time, infact they probably got like 20 years right? That is a little disgraceful when you have people over here convicted of murder that get much lesser penalties. But i guess people are trying to please guys and gals like you. For all we know some of those pictures happened after guards were attacked. maybe the guy with the cut on his leg was injured when trying to fight our troops(guards) and they were trying to pin him down to help him with his injury. You see the problem with washington is they are too quick to crucify anyone to save their own reputation. And to be more animalistic sometimes, believe it or not, you have to rough someone up a bit to get them to stop fighting long enough to put them where you need them. You can't get some people to cooperate by giving them chocolates and tv privaleges.

Maybe you should take war a little more seriously. Its not a game that you benefit from playing nice all the time. I saw no one in these photos seriously injured or killed. Should i show you a picture of that soldier that got his head sawed off on tv?

I take war verry seriously, that is why we should have avoided it entirely. all this suffering by people on both sides are a tragic waste. You can speculate all you wish about the photos but the facts are differant than you speculate all you need to do is view the transcripts of the trials.

I'm going to find that paper if it kills me, I think quite a few of you would definatly get some insight from it. The paper I put up is something like it but it isn't written at the time I was looking for. If you really want to dig into it, take a look at the Vietnam conflict vs. today's conflicts. The troops of today make mistakes the worse thing about these mistakes is they get overly reported at a time when things that should be reported aren't.

i agree we should avoid war. Unfortunately we can't right now. Pulling out would cause much more bloodshed. I will admit, i did not read the transcripts from the trials. However, i didn't not find a single photo that i didn't question. And frankly, they were still nothing compared to what the enemy would do to us. If soldiers committed the crimes given them a fair sentence. (i dont even know what the sentence was) But you have to answer one question... what the eff does a rat in a mouse trap have anything to do with anything???

War is unavoidable, there will always be war. The only unfourtanate thing about war is when you can't come to a conclusion as to why it is being fought.

You are correct nuts we cant avoid it now but we could have b4 had Bush not chosen to cherry pick intell and allready concluded that we had to invade regardless. again I say put him on trial for war crimes and crimes against humanity and see if they can convict. I say they can by he terms of the Geneva conventions, then we can at least have some type of morality behind our occupation and if this did actualy happen it would be a safe bet the violence would go down considerably

half of these pictures aren't real anyway. Others just look bad at the time of the picture. We will never know unless we witness it.

Right on. As someone stated, The London Daily Mirror newspaper printed fabricated photographs showing so-called abuse of prisoners in the back of a Bedford TK military truck, not used by the British Army, but by the Syrian Army. The soldiers who were allegedly doing the abuse weren't even wearing correct English uniforms. Even the assault rifles they were carrying were a type not issued to units deployed in Iraq.

Finally, the British Daily Telegraph Newspaper proved the photographs in The Daily Mirror were faked, and the then Editor of the Daily Mirror resigned shortly after the fakes were exposed, claiming that they were published in good faith. Damn, the guy must be a liberal Democrat.

In view of the above, where did the pictures that our liberal friend is referring to come from and can he prove they are authentic. Of course not.

All this guy does is post liberal crap on the forums, nor can he defend anything in his own words. Copy/paste.copy/paste

Amen Rob! you are so correct! If someone would just happen into any thread posted by him, that person would never know that this is supposed to be forums on a dating site. He makes it out to be an all political bash Bush thing! His opinion is to be shoved down all our throats. He is right no matter what. He is soooo perfect. He makes $22 hr! He has this, he has that! You know what? I do not give a rat's butt!!!! He is no better or worse than I am. He does not have any idea of how to go in another thread and just talk to women. You are right Rob, all he wants to do is post liberal crap. Copy & paste and put links for people to click on that he thinks is 100% iron clad proof of whatever he is saying. He has all the answers and tries to make "Drivinmenutz" out to be someone who doesn't know diddely squat! Well Drivinmenutz DOES know what he is talking about for he has first hand knowledge, a lot more than Mr. Know it all has! I am a veteran, having served in Vietnam and I am totally on Drivinmenutz's side in this. Do I agree with the war in Iraq? Not entirely, but one thing is for sure. I support our President and I definitely will always support our troops!!!!

Watch Mr. know it all, machoman, the good life $22 hr., cut/paste man jump on me now. I couldn't care less. I won't get into a war of words with someone who seems to be so anti-American military!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

One thing to remember is when a person goes on and on non-stop about his $22 an hour and his good life and continually attempts to brainwash us with this crap, there is a 100 per cent chance

"The lady doth protest too much, methinks."

Madman...... The above is from Shakespeare's "Hamlet." Look it up to find out what I am saying to you.
