In everyones profile there is an option to make pictures private, what does this do.... and what is the purpose? Why would someone choose to do this?

some people preferr to share pic of family ,or kids only after they get to know someone. Others may have downloaded more revealing pic to share with others. All the pics I have on mine are public, i like showing off my grand daughter
