OK, so I decided that I HATE Vista so much that I put XP onto my laptop and wiped Vista out. Figured I can always reinstall Vista if by chance it ever got better. But with it being Microsoft, I highly doubt that day will ever come. But I am telling you me putting XP onto my laptop it was not a downgrade it was a BIG up grade. My laptop FINALLY runs fast then my desk top. It use to be the other way around.

Has anybody else gotten rid of Vista?

of course you gonna run faster with xp. It takes less ram to run you OS so more can be used on your actual programs. Vista is pretty crappy.

i got vista with my new laptop a few weeks ago and i can safely say other then a few minor things here and there i don't see it really being much different. they both have their problems but it's not like it's the end of the world either.

I always wipe out Vista, especially if I use my comp for work. Even though Vista is very good in multitasking, it makes your comp extremely slow.

I know, I find it runs how a two gig laptop should run. Before I swear to you it was like on a P3 with dial up.

I paid another $100 to have XP on my computer rather than Vista. I tryed Linux too. Ubunto is free and does all the same things as microsoft, only better, more reliable, and faster.

This was and older copy for when my desk top was built. But if you are not really caring on how you get it, then I am sure you could find a torrent for on on your favorite torrent site.

Yup, it says that you need at least a gig of RAM according to the system requirements, but my laptop has 2 gigs and I still do not find it to be enough. And with a centrino dual core possessor with it. It still did not work to my liking. Some people find a need in there cars. I find a need for speed in my computers.

if all your concerned about is it acting slow, it's not the ram, it's all the security crap they put on it but you just shut it off in the security setting and it runs every bit as fast as xp does if not faster. but then again i also have 4gb ram and a 2.6 core 2 duo processor. my desktop has had vista for a while now with no problems at all but it's got 8gb ram and a 2.6 core 2 quad processor in both towers.

I have used Linux. My boyfriend installed it on my slave drive on my desk top. I just could not get comfortable with it for some reason. I have the disc here still if I ever want to try it again. But I just do not think I can.

I've never even touched Vista... I've got XP on both my desktop AND laptop and it works just fine for my normal day-to-day activity... my desktop is dual-booted though, so I also run Mandriva Linux, which I prefer over Microsoft anything, but I'm still working on figuring that out so I can make the full transition.

I really don't know enough about computers for it to make any difference to me at all.

PCLinux is better IMO.it's set up just like Windows, only it's a Linux distro.i think it's more user friendly than Unbuntu is

XP is great, but for the most part I'm using Vista. As stated before the standard vista install will drive a person crazy. The only way vista is a decent OS is to tweak the hell out of it and remove a lot of the MS crap that they install by default.

For normal home use and home networks XP is much better and easier to set up. And you can get the extras for XP to give it the look of vista sidebars etc.

To change from any OS it is always better to wipe the drive clean and do a fresh install rather than an upgrade. The registry files get too goofed up when install OS over OS.

Vista needs at least 3GB to run optimal. Lots of overhead. Maybe the service pack will fix that though. ohwell

I never understood why they would put it on a laptop to begin with. Most laptops have shared memory...

What a waste putting a ****ty OS that can't handle multiple cores properly, and won't use any ram above 4GB (properly).

I reckon I could set a machine up with ArchLinux and half the spec of yours and get it to run as quick for most everything except perhaps encoding video.

I got Vista Ultimate the weekend it was out. Never got rid of it and never will. It runs pretty darn fast on my PC.
