Other than the dipping, I had two of those, one is now 20 and one is going to be 18 Friday. Just hang in there, and dont let them run over you. It seems like he isnt listening, but he will remember. One thing I am proud of is that I have the respect of my boys! Good Luck!!drinker

Bootcamp....My sister had problems with her son thinking he could do what he wanted to do, he was smoking cigarettes and pot, so she sent him to Juvie...
he got out and started acting up again, so she did it again....He straightened up after that...Now he is a good kid, has a nice family, and works hard

My daughter is 12. I have an idea what you are going through. This is what I do....Their actions have consequences. The consequences fit their actions. My biggest leverage is her cell phone, next is the computer, then the tv. The only thing I can say is set a good example, follow through, and do your best!

Also if he is dipping where is he getting it?
If from a friend let him know his friend can get in trouble since your son is underage.

A 12 year old with a cell phone surprises me. The 6th graders at my child's school don't have them.

My Dad would make us kneel and hold a 5lb can of beans over our head. If we started to drop the can, we got hit with a belt.

He was a POW in Japanese camp in P.I...that's where he learned it.

I went through 2 teenagers. I have one left. Its harder now. The law ties your hands when you try to punish them. The children are very educated on what they can get away with, and what you can do. The best thing you can do to cover yourself, and get help, is use the systems. Use whatever the school system, law enforcement, or your health insurance offers. Everyone may benefit from Family counciling, along with one on one counciling. Good Luck. The most important thing is that they know that your tring not to give up on them.flowerforyou

I guess for me trying to see things from there point of view when I was there age and the way I used to make the same mistakes gave me a better understanding.I tried to aproach my son from his level and let him know I was once his age and let him know I made the same mistakes and here is what happend. Let him know some mistkes or attitueds effect the rest of your life say this in words he can understand and let him know that some of these mistakes cant be fixed later on .This worked for me not right away but after they had time to think. Hope this helps.----Patrick

Hi, well here is what you can do, go and get some pictures of people who have been dipping for years. Put them all over the house so he can see what will happen if he does not stop. As far as the back talking, there is nothing you can do. DO NOT LET ANY ONE GET YOU ANGRY OR GET YOU OUT OF YOUR GAME!! I have 4 children that never back talk to me, because the first time they did it I put a stop to it quick!! Now your son has been doing it for a while, I think it is too late. You need to change the environment around your house, if he is mean, stop washing his laundry, do not cook for him, do not give him any money! stuff like that, I do not mean do it all the time. That way he can appreciate you more.
