if it's run-on or dieseling can be caused by a few things, bad gas is one, high comprssion due to carbon build up is another. this can really only happen in old carburated cars.

is this a turbo car? it may have a 'cool down cycle' for the turbo that keeps the engine running for a few minutes to keep from burning out the seals... generally that is only an aftermarket add-on. you may want to ask a dealer.

or if you shut it down right after driving it hard, the turbo may continue to spin for a bit causing noise (that's actually bad, if you're driving a turbo car hard, let it idle for a minute so the turbo can spool down and the seals don't blow).

The car is a turbo. I have had it for a little over 2 years now and it has never did this to me. I have driven it much harder before as well. I just don't know what could have caused this to happen. It is weird.

When you turn off the engine, the cylinder head may still be very hot. Since the temperature sensor is mounted in the head and, coolant is no longer flowing, it will send a signal that the car is overheating. The computer will turn on the radiator fan to cool it down. This is perfectly normal. Does your car have a temperature gauge?

I second this....You're in Florida, it's already getting warm, it's normal. My Taurus does the same thing.

I understand what you all mean... but why would it start all of a sudden like this and now? It is only like mid 80's here in Fla and it had been out on drives when the temps where 100 and up

The ambient temperature has nothing to do with it. A car can overheat in the Antarctic if its cooling system isn’t functioning properly. I think you’re fine though. You just need to get to know your new car just as she needs to get to know you.

Looks like everyone left you,I think that guy was 100% on about the heat sensor turning the fan on to cool the engine but it really should'nt do that. You should take it to a dealer to have them diagnose it, it could be a bad sensor and that could end bad when you least expect it.flowerforyou

Alright, good luck. I’ve got to get to bed. I’ve got a math exam to fail in the morning.
