I heard on the news there was some kind of foul smell going across NY... and they shut down the trains and subways....

a natural gas leak....a large area of New Jersey and Manhattan tha have the smell..could be a large leak, nothing really known yet...got the news on with Mayor Bloomberg on now, areas that we evaced arr being opened once again, so people are going home etc.
