The other day a middle aged man at the gas station was loading ice into the cooler and the bags started to slip. I came over to help him but before I could do anything use full he got the situation under control. However, since then when ever I come into the store he lights up and is so happy to see me. I know what happened, for a brief moment, he felt "seen", as though his life meant something to somebody else. That is how lonely we can get at times that the smallest gesture can be very powerful.
The experience had me reflecting on my own life and all the times I was too self absorbed, too self centered to even notice other people, and subsequently hurt them.
From now on I want to be kinder. I want people I am with to know that I care about them.
Have you ever looked into someone's eyes so deeply as though you were looking into eternity? As though the whole world disappears? I want that to happen again. Yes I want ***, but I also want us to love holding hands, talking, walking, just being together. I am open to any level of connection, whatever happens is OK.
