The point is that you can win the popular vote yet lose the electoral vote and hence, not be elected. It happened to Gore in 2000, Grover Cleveland in 1888 and Samuel Tilden in 1876. Your opinion of Gore and his family is irrelevant to this discussion.

The sad thing is that despite the very weak Republican field, it will likely still be a close election in November. Though if you look at the electoral map, it will be hard for the Republicans to put together a winning electoral strategy. But Obama can take nothing for granted.

I also love these commercials for "title loans". Bring in the title to your vehicle and get money. Sure. You agree to their usurious terms and if you default they get your vehicle. What a deal.

Wow. The mob traditionally had what they called a "6-for-5" loan. You borrow $500 today and in one week you owe $600. If you can't come up with the $600, well you better come up with at least $100 - the vig. And next week you owe $600 again. Of course, the consequences of not coming up with the mob's money can be quite severe. This doesn't sound a whole lot better.

Dinopoodle shows a lot of courage posting this thread along with her picture. Having said that, I don't find overweight women physically attractive. It's not healthy. I don't ever put anyone down for being overweight, beacause there are those with medical conditions that make it very difficult for them to maintain a healthy weight. For most of us though, it's just a matter of reforming our diets and getting in a little exercise. Being healthy is the key thing.

I was raised a Dem and vote that way although there are a couple Repubs that have garnered my vote through the years. Regardless of party, the level of political whoredom is appalling(yes, 2 ps and 2 ls). Those with great resources are allowed to buy these whores and write the rules in their favor. I think they're known now as "the 1%".

Cookie update:

I used the recipe on the bag as purple suggested. Wasn't too hard. First batch came out perfect. Then when I was messing with the timer, I cut the oven off by mistake. I then overcompensated and ended up burning batch 2. It probably didn't help that I was downing beers the whole time. But hey, the festive holiday spirit was alive. By the way, if you like a nice, really hoppy ale, try Loose Cannon from Clipper City Brewing. It's part of their Heavy Seas line of beers. It is outstanding.

So I got ticked off at the burnt ones and quit. I pulled out the remaining batter about a week later and tried again. Baked another sheet and a 1/2 and they were great.

I mixed everything by hand. I'm thinking that a mixer would make the process a good bit easier. The oven timer is also a good idea. Just be careful if you're drinking like I was.

Bottom line? This ain't too hard. Go for it guys. Your girls will be shocked, amazed and impressed.

Never made cookies before. Or baked anything for that matter. Well I love chocolate chip cookies and thought I might try making some - in the spirit of the season. Anybody got any advice or recipes for a rookie? I'm not a total doofus in the kitchen if that's relevant.
