Here is how you keep your windows machine in peak operating condition and protect yourself at the same time. Download and install all of these and then update / run them all at least once a week.

Spy Bot-Search and Destroy - Plug up holes in your security and catch most, if not all, spyware. When you install this, you will be prompted to turn on certain functionality. Make sure you uncheck Teatimer.

-AND-

CCleaner - Remove temp files and clean your registry

-AND-

Auslogics Disk Defrag - Much better than the disk defrag that comes with Windows.

-AND-

Malwarebytes - Catches malware, adware and spyware. The go to solution for many infections.

-AND-

(Microsoft Security Essentials -OR- Avast) - Free antivirus on par with many of the pay softwares. With the freeware listed above, you can't go wrong.

Ccleaner also has a nice feature which shows you what programs run on startup. You can then disable any that you don't need to run on startup. Can speed up your boot up time.

A u dont defrag . That is for win 3.11 when it took half a day to format it.
Only ccleaner is all u will ever need. It cleans the system.
Bitdefender is the one to use for protection. Its number 1 14 straight years. I made add anybody suggesting Microsoft crap should rethink and retrain as its crap.Avast and all he suggested is the wrong way to go except for ccleaner.

You can also do this by running msconfig and going to startup. You don't even have to pull you the command prompt to do this anymore. I personally just use Norton. I used to use Avast but switching to Norton has just been better. I am a big over guy too. It's custom built by me and i will be making some sweet upgrades soon, new 3D monitor, 7.1 sound card and tiamat headset. So pumped lol

Another av program you may want to consider is avg. It came recomended in my web design class. in order to say which av program is best for certaiin is difficult you have to know about BIOS.
Things only a programmer that specializes in cryptography and other types of security type things would know.
That being said most likely place for infection is your
Email

ut most voruses are transmitted over the internet , so a web design class is a good refferal.
