Topic: ? for Mac users

I have heard conflicting opinions on whether or not anti-virus is needed for a Mac. I just purchased one a few months ago and have had zero issues with it but I don't want to tempt fate either. Can someone point me in the right direction. I was also hoping someone might be able to help me out with whether there is a disk utility (or clean-up) built in (on a PC it would be under system tools--disk clean up) something like that.

Thank you for any help you might be able to provide.

It's my understanding that you don't need anti virus for macs...

Thank you, Jill...I have not loaded one but wanted to check with those how know more about computers (which in my case would be roughly 90% of users.)

I will check into the system tools, disk clean up but I don't think you need one a mac. Of course there is a way to remove old files but not like on a PC...
If I were you, I would take the anti virus back:wink: you still need a firewall tho of course

Better to have one just to be safe. Just stay away from Norton (resource hog). I'm not a MAC user, but I know there have been a very few virus' written for MAC. Not nearly at as much risk as PC, still better to be safe, firewall too;^]

a good firewall should take care of that

Mac operating system is virus free . Having said that most available software is window based. when trying to send other computers which are windows you need a windows adapter . If you have these then you can get corruption on files entered through this media. If you talk to mac computers only then it is fair to say you wont have virus problem

Yeah, just adjusted my firewall settings, so I hope that helps some. Apple also has a built in program called Time Machine which allows me to do a daily back-up of everything on an external HD--which I have and which is PC/Mac compatible. Now I need to find out if I need to do a disk clean-up.

Thank you everyone for the links and the suggestions. I appreciate it.
