An interesting question:
So I dated this guy on this site and did everything by the book; didn't share baggage wasn't afraid of a physical relationship didn't constantly talk and instead asked questions took interest in hobbies And yet all of this seemed to be the wrong thing to do. So my question is, is all dating advice just full of ****? |

 Sorry I had to use the cheesey line. Well... at 19 you shouldn't have baggage persay. And you are young... date... have fun (don't so sleep with everyone that shows interest)... be yourself. And you have plenty of time! Focus on yourself and school. When it is time someone will come along to compliment your life. |

So my question is, is all dating advice just full of ****? No, not necessarily, but every piece of advice doesn't apply to every person in every relationship scenario. I think there are probably some very good, very valid general guidelines that apply more often than not. But every circumstance is different and has to be treated accordingly. A lot of the "advice" (and I use the term loosely) I've been given makes about as much sense as a cyanide milkshake.... |

Advice on how to act is not usually good. Except for the advice to not sleep with guys too soon. At your age, I suggest waiting at least a full month, longer if you're only seeing each other once a week.
Otherwise, just be yourself and get involved in all life has to offer. The right guy will come along.

not the "wrong thing " to do,..but maybe the "right guy " for you,..
be yourself & be happy,.if you can`t be those two things with your guy,..then something is wrong |

I think there are probably some very good, very valid general guidelines that apply more often than not. But every circumstance is different and has to be treated accordingly. A lot of the "advice" (and I use the term loosely) I've been given makes about as much sense as a cyanide milkshake.... I must agree with Lex just remember no matter who we meet and how it goes the feelings are not always mutual for both parties involved... Take it as a stepping stone to the one to be...

I don't think there is necessarily a book to go by. There are suggestions, but people are different.

So my question is, is all dating advice just full of ****? I would take this a step further: All advice is ****. I have one piece of advice for you: Ignore all advice. I've done that, and that's how I've become the man I'm today: 55 years old, 5'4", 220 lbs, living unemployed in a basement room, and not having gone out on a date in 3 years, last kiss: 5 years ago, last interesting relationship: 11 years ago. You can do it, too. Just take this advice: Don't take my advice. |

There is still that chemistry thing... you may feel like your doing all the right things and possibly an attraction, chemistry is either there or it isn't. It can not be mandated...
