So I borrowed my buddies cop uniform and was standing on the sidewalk when someone rushed up to me and started yelling they needed my help! I mean I'm not a cop! what an idiot to think i was......Well I guess I was wearing the uniform so I can't really fault the guy.

Later I walked up to a girl wearing the shortest skirt I could imagine, a practically see through top...with a v neck cut so low I could practically see her nips...so I asked her how much...she slapped me and clearly stated I'm not a 'hooker!' how dare you think so!....well sorry you were wearing the uniform....I don't think I should be at fault.

moral of the story...be expected to get treated like the uniform you are wearing.

So you are saying if you see someone in police uniform you don't assume they are a cop?

You can not argue this point seriously...because (in my part of the world) it is illegal to wear a police uniform if you are not a cop.So by assuming...I would be correct.

moral of the story...be expected to get treated like the uniform you are wearing.

Try not to place the blame on society for your misperception of the apparent sterotypical influnces that led you to this belief.

Cause life is like a box of chocolates..., my good sir.

I hate double standards in general.

Specifically with women, the fashion trends can be pretty risqué in the summer or for clubbing. I happen to like dressing with the trends - when appropriate.

So how does a woman get around this double standard of looking like a slut during certain functions?? I think having class is the key definitely but there are so many hypocrites.

I also like the one when guys bad mouth some women for dressing slutty or skimpy but they actually LIKE it, and they unfortunately fall to conservative norms by joining the witch hunt rather than having their own opinion.

I agree that no one should be judged by how they dress. Their actions should dictate how we perceive them.

Good topic Isaac; it’s one to make us think about how we act towards others and whether we are as kind as we should be ... winking

One of these days, I'm going to wear a turban and a robe, and see what people's reactions are. Would make an interesting experiment.

Most people's perception defines their reality. Sad but true.

True,
and I do agree with Melody as well that there are double standards. However, the reality is people ARE going to judge you RIGHT AWAY. Unconciously, even. And then form an opinion...the opinion can change over time. But the initial judgement won't go away.

Hummmmmmmm or could the moral of the story be don't try to be someone your not?.......................whoa slaphead

Or

Don't always assume who someone is by the clothes they wear.

Kind of like don't judge a book by it's cover............whoa

The analogy has little merit...

A cop has a standard uniform, identifying him as such. The badge and gun belt are fairly accurate identifiers. A hooker, on the other hand, doesn't have a standard uniform. Depends on the type. You have the back alley ho that looks like she just crawled out of the dumpster. Your high class call girl that's dripping jewelry and high fashion. The high school teacher making her rounds secretly to supplement her meager paycheck. Point being, you can't tell if someone's a hooker by the way they dress. And just because someone may dress, in your view, "hooker-ish" doesn't give you the right to walk up an offend them with such an offer. I'd slap ya too!

but your point is valid.

We are, unfortuantely in my opinion, judged by our appearances. ohwell Luckily, it's quite easy to override initial judgements by actually speaking to someone to find out what's on the inside. Appearances, after all, are often deceiving.flowerforyou

I do agree with you,

Cops do have a standard uniform(depending on country) but a badge and a gun is normally part of it.

I guess the point I am trying to make is don't dress like trash and be expected to be treated with class.....

Guess what...if you are showing your b**bs guys are going to look, whether or not you catch them looking...if your skirt is so high that you need a hair net...again guys are going to look. they ARE going to judge you...whether or not they voice that judgement is a different story.

same goes for guys, example: if you are applying for an executive position...don't expect to get treated like an executive if you walk in with cut-off jean shirts and a flannel shirt with no t-shirt underneath...Everyone judges...and whether or not it's true WE are judged by the clothes we wear.
