I got a email yesterday that was snoped and true. All the pharmacies mark up rx by up to a few thousand %. BUT Costco charges pretty near well the manufacturer price, and by law, if you tell them you're simply going to the pharmacy they have to let you in without the card. You can check out by going to their site what your rx costs. My friend just told me (who lost her insurance and can't afford her stuff) that she did and it's cheaper than the canadian pharmacies. Just a FYI for those without insurance, good to know for my people also. Any comments?

Not sure.

We don't have a Costco around here, but there is a local "super-store" around here (Meijer) whose pharmacies offer several antibiotics for free, primarily to get you in the door and get you to switch all your meds to them, or to buy somethig else.

But you don't have to. I have gone there a few times for my kids, just to get the free antibiotics, rather than pay a $20 copay at my pharmacy.

But I'm kinda cheap.

The worms are now escaping the can!

Obama's flavor of health care... Almost TWO TRILLION dollars.

Why not address the greed within the health industry first? Why not fix what we got. it used to be a great health care system but greed is what is wrecking it.

This is a classic example of some of the many issues we need to address instead of throwing "government run" health care in our faces!

I found that Ralph's Pharmacy and their generics are a huge cost saver as well!

This has been going on forever. Back in the 70's (?) early 80's? '60 Minutes' did a stint on pharmacy costs in NYC. You could go to one and they would charge 125.$ and several blocks down another was cahrging 68.$ and this was before health insurance was the 'thing' to have. At that point I would shop around. In Nevada, you can't get a Rx at a place like that if you have insurance (which I do). I tried but not at Costco. My insurance turned down a pain patch and didn't think to do this. They asked if I had insurance, said yes and they said you can't get it??? That one I still don't get. It's the drugstore and chains that hike the prices from my understanding.

Oh nosad2 I'm going against the grain on this

Costco & Walmart = pure evil

This is the thing... Insurance cos cover newly approved meds ONLY if they offer a "significant" improvement over existing therapies, what they really mean is WAY WAY cheaper. Often waiting until the patent has expired so generics can flood the market...

Perfect example is discount phamacy GIVING it away... Like a lost leader? This is where I fume, instead of investing a portion of generic sales into research... They're choking the Large Pharmaceuticals and preventing real progress.

Don't get me wrong, Large Pharmas had it coming really... a bunch of self governed morons that fleeced the general public for the good of shareholders.

So now we face a desperate industry trying to find itself..

In fact, the only way for them make a few dollars seems to be by buying out late stage BIOTECHS... It takes $1-2 billion for a drug to get FDA approval so why not drop $100 million on a starving biotech and get everything with it desks, chairs etc... INCLUDING PUBLIC PRIVATE INVESTMENTS(stockmarket)

Back to Costco & Wallymart

Soon... even if we had the money to buy something of very good quality because we wanted it to last say 50yrs? We won't be able to
Trust me I'm in retail and the only way for us to survive amongst the big guys is to manufacture what we sell? surprised

Yea
I'm a big believer in keeping my money local

except my beloved Nexium!!

It would cost me an arm and a leg here to keep refilling

so my freind in Texas. Goes over the border and gets it for me for $2.00/bottle
Doc says it's the same exact thing

I know seniors who go across the border to stock up on meds:heart:
