There's a excellent book out, "When AA Doesn't work for You-
Rational Steps to Quitting Alcohol"
Rational Emotive Therapy- he (Albert Ellis) wrote the book and is the father of RET. Excellent retraining of the brain. Remember ist's no so much a drinking problem but a thinking problem. Good book for just readjusting your thinking if you're more a emotional thinker also. Alot of therapists are now using this as behavior modification to help people, although it's been around for a long time.
AA was primarilly set up as a mans program and is still very much geared to men. It doesn't actually address alot of the issues that women deal with, even today with alcoholism. There also is a a online group, Women for Sobriety you might be interested in for support. NOT saying you are a alcoholic...posting for anyone who needs support. I hope I was allowed to put this info in M2. It's to help others.

I'm also an alcoholic & drug addict & had to hit bottom before I could even begin to get back on my feet. So, many people set out to judge us & the outside world has no idea what it's like to have this deadly addiction. Life became more than I could deal with & my addiction nearly killed me. I lost my entire family, friends & everything I owned. Ended up in jail & rehab to get my act together. I have 2 years clean & sober now & it's been the hardest 2 years of my life. Bless you all!!!

Thank you!! I have become very active in my groups & am secretary at my home group. I also chair the meetings on occassion. AA is where I got my start & am what I feel most comfortable with although I do attend NA also. The road to recovery isn't easy. But, the road to hell is a lot harder!!! Already been there & am making my way out!

Both my parents were alcholics. It broke up their marriage when I was very young, and there were 5 children, all the age of 13 and under. My ma seriously started drinking when the youngest contracted lukemia and died. It was horrible, she was the nicest person in the world..but when she drank she was mean-dark-hurting, used to call Dr. JeKyll(sp?)/Mr. Hyde. 13 years of that and one day she just up and quit. I was the 2nd youngest, got the most of it because the others left as soon as they could. Thankfully in positive ways (college), but everyone has a addiction or behavior (sister very controlling/B*tch_altho she is mellowing) otherrs- food, one beer me? cigarettes now, the past is the past and should stay there.
Alcholism effects everyone close to it. Thankfully...I was able to meet my mother as a woman and my ma for 8-9 years. To this day am very grateful to have had that.
