Yep.

I'm less comfortable with the idea of growing old.

I'm fine with growing older. In fact, I enjoy life more now than I ever did in my 20s and 30s. But sometimes I get scared of being alone. Just sometimes. Most of the time I'm good with it.

I would be okay if I had a roommate but I get afraid when I am alone........I will literally watch the windows and doors if I live alone......but would prefer a significant other to a roommate......but if that's what life offers than so be it......roommate it is

I think it has something to do with my parents leaving me home alone at night without a babysitter when I was young.........

Yes, that's one of my concerns too. I have been living alone for 3 and a half years now and I still get up at night sometimes to check the doors and windows.

I'm uncomfortable with the thought that maybe I've grown too used to living/being alone.

Actually no. I tell myself so many times I don't need a man to cook, clean up after, etc. But, truthfully I can't manage alone. Not financially I can do that myself. I just need someone to love & love me back. I've never really been alone & it's scary when I am. I'm the happiest when I have someone else to think of besides wallowing in my own self pity. Men...can't live with em & this ol' gal can't live without them!!rofl

I just have trouble with the idea of "significant other". It's a term I just can't wrap my head around, which brings up another phrase I have a problem with, but to stay focus... wait, what are we talking about again?

Not really.
What will be, will be.
Ask me again when I get old :-)

I would enjoy a significant other, but don't have a need for one. If I find the right woman then of course, I welcome the idea. If it is just meant for me to raise my son alone then so be it, I'm not opposed to it. I just think that it would be more enjoyable if I had someone to share it with. Cest la vie.

The first year was the hardest for me. I wanted someone to lean on emotionally so badly. Now I'm going on my fourth year alone. I no longer need someone to take care of me like that. I wonder if at some point you become incapable of emotional intimacy with someone. Kind of like "use it or lose it".

When you really start getting older, friends die off and the kids don't like hanging out with elderly folks.

You'll be lucky if they call you once a month or when they need something.

Great Question Ruth!

I am okay with the idea. I pefer not to be alone. But as long as I have my kids and grandkids, i will be fine.
