Can you Fall in love with someone you have never met

Yep definately, in some ways it is easier than in person.
Well it is if you are both open and truthful about everything, If you dont hold parts of yourself back, then you get to know the person and can love them for who they are.
Then when you do meet there are no surprises and you already love them and it is very very easy.
But I would say that if you cannot give al of yourself before you meet and keep parts of you hidden, then it would be very hard.

I feel you can fall for "your idea of who they are".....sometimes when we meet, people aren't who they seem to be online

entirely possible, the falling, online, can be easy. it is the staying that can prove difficult when you meet. but if it is true, it lasts.

I mistook falling in love for someone I haven't met personally yet but guess it wasn't love as I easily gave up the feelings.

In order to love someone, you have to really know them. And you cannot truly know someone until you meet them in person. It's one thing to have a nice conversation over the phone or online or get all misty eyed and emotional over a few pics or a webcam, but it's very different in person; you have an opportunity to learn things about each other that you wouldn't know otherwise- mannerisms, traits of one form or another, environmental things. You might even get a chance to interact with their friends and/or family which really gives you insight about who they are.

You might really like a person you've never met, but it's not love. In my opinion.

I couldn't. I might be attracted to certain (visible or otherwise apparent) aspects of their personality, but not love.

I don't open up to people easily, and I'm pretty over protective of my heart. It takes time for me to allow myself to love someone, so even if I were to meet someone, it's not likely that I would fall in love.

Same here, I prefer to fall in lust, it's much safer, not as much bloodshed.
