Md. rally planned to condemn McDonald's attack. ROSEDALE, Md. (AP) -- Advocates for transgender rights are planning a rally outside a McDonald's in Maryland where an attack against a transgender woman that was caught on video took place. The rally condemning the attack is set for 7 p.m. Monday outside the restaurant in Baltimore County. The video posted online shows a woman being beaten and then apparently having a seizure. Baltimore County police say a 14-year-old girl has been charged as a juvenile and an 18-year-old woman, Teonna Monae Brown, faces assault charges in the case. The victim, 22-year-old Chrissy Lee Polis, says she's the victim of a hate crime. A hate crime is usually defined by state law as one that involves threats, harassment, or physical harm and is motivated by prejudice against someone's race, color, religion, national origin, ethnicity, sexual orientation or physical or mental disability.
should be interesting, they will have to prove which class qualifies this as a hate crime(race, color, religion, national origin, ethnicity, sexual orientation, disability?) otherwise, it just seems like a brutal crime between jealous females and a male dressed as a female |

yay, i dont think he needed a beating, but the problem is anyone who chooses to cross dress or commit a violent crime against a women can now change their clothes and be protected by the law under hate crime protection laws, when in fact they are just a-holes.....
this girl sounded like she thought it was a female hitting on her man and lost control...now he is using his x-gender preference as his defense/and or lawsuit. I really doubt if she thought he was a man in the restroom, then why would she care if he hit on her boyfriend, unless she thought her boyfriend was gay. If she was really committing a hate crime---i doubt she would take on a man, or secondly her boyfriend couldve handled it. thirdly, it was just a jealous fit and she was under the impression it was a female... And still, its not okay to go around beating the crap out of people..cuz you're mad. that's just lame... |

According to the news, the woman is transgender and in the process of totally converting over to female. Taking the chemicals, doing the surgery etc.
That would make it a hate crime. |

Taking the chemicals, doing the surgery etc. That would make it a hate crime. the maryland laws are pretty vague, so it could be a hate crime, but normally it would not be unless it was concerning a specific protected class,, of which transgender (cross dressing)is not the maryland law considers it hate crime if the victim perceived it to be,, which is pretty inclusive of just about any person from any group kind of like cops having the right to kill if they felt 'threatened' which is also a pretty lax standard and inclusive of about any cop who is a bit paranoid or not used to certain situations.. |

of course, the article is very vague as well and doesnt contain much detail about what and how the fight came about,,,which would probably count for alot in court to decide if it was a 'hate crime'

You have to look at the Eason for the beating. Was it because They were transgender or because they used the. Restroom of the opposite gender. Motivation determines a hate crime.

The real culprit are : Lack of morals, lack of standards, lack of empathy, lack of intelligence, lack of civilized behavior of the MCdonalds staff and their customer base. The whole incident is not a result, but a bad symptom of a failed society, failing to teach values and standards. |

I was also thinking along those lines, but the details arent in (always wait at least two weeks to get some RESEMBLANCE to the 'whole truth') I always thought hate crimes related to the REASON someone was targeted,,,for instance, a gay man walking down the street with another gay man(not infringing upon anyone and minding their own business) may be targeted JUST BECAUSE they are gay, constituting a hate crime a black man in a white bar who hits on a white mans girl, may get targeted for the perceived disrespect of his actions, constituting a charge of assault but not a hate crime in this case though, I can see a couple of other reasons this person might have been targeted beyond their transgenderism talking to someone elses partner and being in a female bathroom with a penis,,, |

It gives the Feds the ability to investigate hate crimes in states that can't prosecute because there is no specific law covering transgender. Being this was in Baltimore County and the whole beating was caught on video there will be an investigation by the Feds because of the gender identity issue. |
