Hey All,

Got to say i got right into this series so much that before it had ended Id downloaded all the audio books and would listen to them whilst working and it took me a few weeks to get through all 4 books but I must say i timed it half good as the newest one comes out in few days time and theyll be 2 after so for those Ill have to wait like everyone else.

Another show I got into was the Killing they had the 1st 2 episodes one after the other and it was pretty good so downloaded the rest of it as had already shown in US and plowed through them in few days I had to know who the killer was.

Haven't seen this yet, but my brother has been bugging me to watch this for quite some time now. He's giving me a copy in a few days, so I'll see how it is. i have been hearing a lot of good things about it though.

The rest of the nominations came in the technical categories and include nominations for costumes, hair styling, makeup (both prosthetic and non-prosthetic), stunts, visual effects, sound editing, and casting. The fabulous opening credit sequence was nominated for Outstanding Main Title Design. While Tim Van Patten scored a directing nom for the pilot episode and David Benioff and D.B. Season 2 Filming Draws Near

While many of you are elbows deep in George R. R. Martin’s A Dance with Dragons, the team in Belfast is currently in full-blown pre-production mode as they ramp up for filming of season two of Game of Thrones. Filming is scheduled to start on July 25, less than two weeks away.

We have had reports of some of the cast in Belfast now, doing table reads and probably costume fittings as well. While back in England, some of the Night’s Watch crew have been taking horse back riding lessons recently. Stark guard extras are currently being booked for work on the 25th and 26th. Sets have been erected in the Northern Ireland countryside.

You can also get news about it straight from the source at www.georgerrmartin.com

Season 2 will follow the events of 'A Clash of Kings'. It is an amazingly well done series so far, which I expected from HBO, considering their other original series.

My only concern is the pace at which the books are being written. lol. It took six years for 'A Dance With Dragons' to come to fruition, if that pace continues, the series will stall after season 5 in 2015 unless they stretch events and/or delve further into the surrounding events of the books.

God forbid it won't take that long with the series! Haha. I think that would be a cruel death, so to speak, for people like me who don't have the patience to wait that long. laugh At least they're already starting on season 2.

I think its also possible they'll do some of his short stories, like 'The Hedge Knight' and 'The Sworn Sword' to fill the void during those times. Guess we'll see. But yeah, a six year lull after the 6th season airs, after a one or two year lull following the 5th, would likely destroy HBO's interest.

Naught to do but hope for the best. hehehe.

That's a horrible way to go about it and here's why ...

The more people that watch a show when it airs, the higher the probability that it WON'T GET CANCELLED.

You've already read the first book at least (I'm assuming here), so why WOULDN'T you watch the series? Granted, you're not dealing with Fox here, so I'm sure we won't have another Firefly situation, but if the number of people who are unfamiliar with the book series begin to wane, then those who ARE familiar or the random people they picked up this season who maintain interest (its hard to run a serial series ... attention spans are just too short, that's why sitcoms are so popular) are the only patronage they have to go on. Therefore, if you're a fan of the books, WATCH THE SERIES. If you don't like how its done, fine, do something else, but if you want it to continue, you HAVE to watch when it airs.

If you haven't read A Clash of Kings, you have 9 months to get through it before Season 2 begins. Read! Watch! Weeeeeeeee!

Hehehe.

Actually, I haven't. I was going to get into the book a couple of years ago, but once I realized he hadn't finished the series, or was ever close to the end of it, I decided to hold off. I've gotten irked over the horrendously long series that takes authors years and years to get through.

It's also on cable, which I don't have, and am not about to pay for. But the main thing is that he's dinked around with getting the series done.

I read the first book and thoroughly enjoyed it. I fell in love with many of the characters, got really angry at a certain few. Now I'm in the middle of Clash of Kings, and it's really interesting and keeps me interested, though I don't care reading about few of the characters, but I trudge keep reading, curious to see what happens.

I was able to watch the first season of the show via On Demand after I finished A Game of Thrones, and I enjoyed it. Though a few bits and pieces I didn't care for, but for the most part I loved it. Still some parts of the show I was hoping for a different outcome but then that would go way off course from the book. What can I say? I grow too attached to some characters... laugh

I rather like long series. There's much more that can be accomplished and lacking the luxury (or misfortune?) of stumbling upon the series after its already completed, I'm willing to wait. Dinked around, huh? Like any job, would you rather it be done quick and sloppy? Or would you rather have quality at the expense of time? Especially since, when all is said and done, you're not out any more money than you would have spent anyway ... and better spent now. So far, the books have been quality ... I refer to the series as my favorite fantasy series of all time thus far. So I'd rather wait six years to see it done right than to see him pump out the last two books with obvious and predictable results and endings.

As for cable, yeah I don't know what to tell you. If it weren't for my parents' having it, I probably wouldn't have caught the series myself. Hrm. Buy the DVDs or Blu-Rays! That should help the show's standing. :)

Its pretty interesting how he does that. Most of the characters I as well "trudged through" in the second book became characters I was anticipating in the third and fourth books. Hehehe. He does well with making you love or hate characters, but you can always love them all as solid characters and can see their motivations and agree with why they act the ways they do.

Too attached, hehehe. Yeah, Sean Bean ... every role ... But you also do that a lot with the books. Can't tell you how many times I wanted Eddard to step out of character and lay down the smack. lol

Likewise! This has been my recent favorite, though Dragonriders of Pern still top my list. :)

There's a difference between length of time writing a series because they're focused on it, versus length of time writing a series because they're doing a bunch of other things. Looking at his bibliography on his website he put out 14 other books from 1996-2011, either writing them himself, collaborating with others, or editing the other books.

Unfortunately, the length of time for a more massive series doesn't always bode well for how good the book is by the time the series actually ends. I will shortly be re-starting Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series (I stopped after how long Winter's Heart dragged on, and decided to wait till the final book is out this November. I only hope Sanderson didn't totally botch it up) and Steven Erikson's main portion of the Malazon series, since his is done too.

Love the Pern series. But she tended to write her books as stand-alone within the series or trilogies, so you could easily slide in and out with a completed section.

Her son hasn't done to bad adding to the series, though they're more simplistic.
