Anyone else currently serving, or missing someone who's serving overseas or far from home?

One of my friends has a daughter in Afghanistan right now. Another has a son in Iraq and they are hoping like hell he comes home soon.
PS, Your submarine looks like it wants to eat somebody just like one of my favorite aircraft of all time!  My piggy is hungry!  Funny how both the A-10 and subs both have such a BIG set of teeth up front!  YIKES!!! So here is to you defenders of America!  |

I was in the military as a rank of Private First Class.
Back in '94. But no I do not know of anyone serving in the military lately... Isabel

Yes living in Colorado Springs with many military bases here. We have lost friends and neighbors. With Fort Carson, Peterson Air Force base, The Mountain, Air Force Academy, and two others.

It's the USS Torsk, currently located in Baltimore's inner harbor as part of the Maritime Museum. It's not currently in active service, but it was the first sub I ever set foot on.

I served a lifetime ago USN CV-66 USS America. Got a couple friends who are military. I hate seeing them go into the theatres of operation. They are my friends ya know?
But, I know what it is like to be a stranger in a strange place. That is why I always buy someone in uniform a drink when I hit a bar or at least hold the door for them and say "Thanks for what you do". |

It is WWII era is it not??? It is indeed. The US Navy currently has no diesel boats in service. I have also visited the USS Bowfin in Pearl Harbor. Built in 1942, Bowfin was known as the "Pearl Harbor Avenger." But she doesn't have an awesome shark painted on her bow. |

i was in the Army from 05-08 with 15 months in Iraq, thats how i found this site the first time around.

I remember reading about one that took incredible damage and still made it back to base. I couldn't find that story, but I did find one almost as good. I tried, but they told me to lose some weight first, so naturally I told them that they'd just have to lose the next war, since I wasn't gonna be there, lol.

i thought we learned our lesson in vietnam. apparently not.
what i cant figure out is how many a10 warthogs do the terrorist have? tanks? b2 stealth bombers? stealth fighters? ships? jets? anything? what the hell are we still doing over there.if all of our troops are over there even our(national guard)wouldnt that leave our county defenseless?something stinks.why are they putting up cameras on every corner in our country?who are they watching?now many people are joining the service because theres no jobs left in america.i almost went in the airforce 20 years ago.im glad i didnt.what the hell do all these people want to fight about anyway? i used to go on webcam sites all over the world and talk to people.cant do that now.they are told by thier government we hate them as are we told they hate us.i think the fluoride in the water is starting to effect peoples brain cells.as a child in 6th grade i couldnt understand how we had a civil war. it just didnt make sense.the war on drugs = the war on our people.the war on terror = the war on our people.i think its time to stop letting our government control us.and start thinking for ourselves. it would make more sense.because of the war on terror whos standing in line in checkpoints and having their every move recorded on cameras? us |

I served in the military 20 years and still work with the military bands. I have several friends serving in Afghanistan.
