so, i'm at work the other day, and i walk past the office of a co-worker, who greets me with, "hey, pumpkin-dip!"

being as i don't quite hear too wonderfully, i do a quick double-take. "what did you call me?"

"pumpkin-dip."

"do explain," i reply with a puzzled, questioning look.

"have you ever had pumpkin-dip? no? does it sound good? yes? well...that's you. very unique and yet, somehow, you know that you're an original that just can't be beat."

--------------------------------------------------------------

so, what's the strangest thing someone has said to you recently?

I Don't know what my reaction would be to someone calling me *pumpkin-dip*... I'm always pretty calm and laid-back... probably wouldn't be quite as casual a response as you gave your work buddy though

I'm a bit hard of hearing, so I probably would just think I didn't hear what they said correctly, LOL

I think this is so cool and sweet. I love pet names. I'm always being busted for calling people peppy overflows of verbiage and love it.

You are not going to believe this. I went to my usual supermarket. I walked the isles, and after a turn I beheld a woman in a sales outfit, making bite-sized samples. Some rye pita bread and a beige creamy miasma. She smiled at me, and said, "Sir, would you like to try our new creation?" I took a mouthful for taste. It was surprisingly good, I did not recognise the taste. "What is it?" I asked. "Pumpkin-dip", she answered.

I would have completely forgot this incident if it weren't for you post, there.

Recently by a dear friend and family member by marriage, who I haven't seen since I was 18. He calls me "Kid" or "Kiddo" and he's only 6 years older than I am.

I think "Pumpkin-dip" is cool and very original. Better than the guy who messaged me to complain that he preferred looking at my feet than my present profile pic. Ouch.

I would much rather be called pumpkin-dip than some of the things I've been called. Just about every one of the names I'm thinking of come from a single person. I find it insulting and embarrassing, but he's one of these guys who always has a snappy comeback - something I have never been good at.

I'm hoping someday I don't have to deal with him at all, but until then, I keep wondering how long I will hold out before nail him with a fist. I swear this guy just wants to goad me into a fight. I'm afraid what will happen if I oblige him....and it has nothing to do with what he might do to me. I've seen another man's life flash before my eyes during a fight. It was one of the most sobering experiences I have ever had.

He's also the same guy whose wife left him after only a year and a half of marriage. Apparently, he didn't pay her enough attention. He was too busy trying to be "one of the guys".
