You know that is a damn good question. Personally; I don't have a clue why people want a relationship but I am sure the good people of Mingles will enlighten both of us. bigsmile

Well, I can only give the answer as correctly as I understand it.

Every environmental acquisition system of a living organism must acquire something from the environment, process that which it has acquired, for a product that maintains and promotes the life of that organism.

There are 7 of these systems in man, or in a Biblical metaphor, we are a beast of seven eyes and seven horns, meaning seven means of perception and seven ways to protect our life.

The human mind is one of them, and is responsible for human behavior over time.

Or simply put, we seek someone to build a life with.

And since the human mind is responsible for behavior over time, one can judge a persons characters by how far into their future their present actions are aimed at.

You see it in relationships, from those who just want to get laid, to those who seek lifelong companionship.

In the ideal, a loving relationship is like a safe-house. It's your refuge from the turbulence of the world outside. It's where you can relax, be yourself, and enjoy your time with the people around you.

Everyone wants to feel safe. Settling down to have a family allows one to expand the social network of this safe zone. Raising children to be proud of gives a boost to self-esteem. Yadda, yadda, yadda.

Unfortunately, many do not understand how to make all this work, but it's a nice dream.

I want to be loved because love makes me relax. Relaxing gives me confidence. Confidence allows me to let little things roll off my back. In short, love makes me feel and act like the person I want to be. And that's because of what's on the inside, not because of someone trying to change me.

I don't really want to get into (because it irks me), but after having a night to think about it, this was also Okami's point in another thread.

Because he travels so much, he likes to have a "sanctuary" in each place. We may all recognize that what he is doing is selfish, but at the same time, he may not be able to stay in one place long enough to build something lasting. So this is his way of coping, at least in his mind.

I really did have a personality profile written out. I almost sent it, then DarkOwl posted something that struck me. Because of DarkOwl's words, I chose not to post, and exited the thread instead.

Well, I neither agree with nor trust anyone who enters a thread just to begin an argument. Especially when said person adopts a bulletproof wall of denial to ensure that no one can win, much less have a reasonable discussion.

To me, that says more about a person than perhaps they intended to show.

Should I throw her over my knee, and give her one for each of the twelve days of Christmas? pitchfork

I used to think it would be nice to have someone to care about, someone who would care about me, someone to share life with, someone to learn and grow with, someone to build a bond with, a bond that would be "greater than the sum of its parts." so to speak.

Turned out it was never real -- a beautiful fantasy, but it doesn't exist. Not for me, anyway.

I think about this frequently. I think we are emotional creatures. We have emotions that need to be fulfilled.

If we are alone (as I am at themoment) it affects an individuals mental state. Its especially true at this time of year. It hurts when you don't have someone special to be with. It really sucks. And there is the sexual aspect to this too. Its essential for living--just as eating and excersise.

I don't have anyone to talk to except for my friends kitty who tends to ignore me. I hate that. Lonelyness is not a good. Having someone closeby to hold is a good thing. The hard part is how do you find that person? Or how do they find you? Would write more, but holidays really have me feeling crappy. When I came back from my job in China, I had a feeling it was not going to be a good transition--reestablishing myself here stateside. So now comes the emotional crap of attempting to be positive when you really feel like crap. Thank goodness chirstmas is only once a year.
