I guess I'm not understanding the whole concept of what is going on with it.
I hear people arguing the point that it should be free. If that's the case I ask why?
Then I also hear people talking about it should be available to women.
I wasn't aware that there are women who can't obtain it. Can't they get a prescription from a doctor?
And I would also like to know if women can get it for free then why. Ant men get free condoms?

in general

YES< men and women can get 'free' contraception (condoms and pills) depending upon their income level by going to various clinics who supply such income based assistance

generally, men and women who should be able to 'afford' it within their own income will have to pay for it

a male can get a box of about 12 for 9 dollars , or a little under a dollar a piece

less than what they pay for those daily cigarettes, or cups of coffee , or soft drinks.....MOST can afford this

the pill, however, is a prescription med that one must go through the medical profession to receive and that too is usually income based,,,but ranges from 15-50 bucks a month, or fifty cents to 1.75 per day

less than those junk food items most eat daily,

MOST can probably afford this as well

Then why is it such a big issue?

Women buy cigarettes, coffee and sodas so why can't they afford their contraception? Its their fault they get pregnant anyway...

Then why is it such a big issue?

hmmm,, tricky question

best I can tell is it falls on the 'equality' issue

are women who cant afford it as entitled to it as those who can?
is it a 'right' to have birth control?

these things usually fall under the category of 'equality' when other reasonable options arent seen as reasonable by a majority,,,

I hate the word entitled.
As far as your equality statement, then I should be givin a boat by the government so I can fish and provide for my family because there are those who can afford one and I can't.

well, lobbying does quite a bit, so if you were passionate about it, ID keep trying...lol

for right now, we dont have enough of a majority who feel that expecting you to shop instead to feed your family is too much of an unjust imposing of personal values upon others,,,

Then why is it such a big issue?

Because few men can keep it in their pants...

and women want equality.

so just as many of them have forgotton how to say NO.

I believe it should be provided free by any health insurance company that has any sense.

It's cheaper to prevent a pregnancy/birth than to have an unplanned pregnancy/birth be charged to your health care plan.

The pill costs between $15-$50 per month.

A pregnancy can run into some real money....$150 per visit for pre-natal care and 5,000 to $15,000 for the birth. If there are complications, costs can skyrocket.

Keep in mind, if you are with a company that provides health care coverage, ity's in your best interest to have the women in your plan not having unplanned pregnancies....it saves everyone money.

Another way to think of it is...if you have Dental Insurance, most plans provide for one or two FREE cleanings and checkups a year. Why? Because it saves the plan/members money if dental problems are caught early on, before they become expensive to repair. It's cheaper to fix a small cavity than to put off a check up and require a crown later.

The health care plan I am with (Blue Cross/Blue Shield) currently does NOT charge any co-pay for "well woman" check up either. It's beneficial to all involved to make sure women get their well woman checks on a regular basis.

I love women and think we should take care of them as best as we can.

It also makes good financial sense.

I realy hesitate to say why this is an issue (imho).

First they tried to control the 2nd Ammendment with many laws.

That did not work because way to many people exercised the 1st Ammendment.

so they tried to 'cancel' the 1st Ammendment by deriding those that used it.

That was also unsucessful so they went at the 1st by the back side clause.

Religion.

and used contreception to split the vote of the Women from the vote of the Men in the Faith arena by conjuring a wall-of-retoric.

Folks should start standing up.

else the first crumble and the second be the only remedy.

Simple cure... Abstenince. (no 'unexpected' consequence).

Less simple cure...

When I have an accident in my car. The person at fault pays for the damage by their insurance.

If you make the fathers insurance company pay half the price of the child.

Fewer men would be tempted to waste time humping someone they would not want to wed.

Surely you ar joking? Do you seriously think guys would quit humping if their insurance would get stuck for 1/2 the bill? Hahahaha! Tooo funny!

They are already on the hook for child support in most states.

I think you missed the point....it's cheaper to PREVENT!

the problem with child support is two fold, one that women wont name or dont know who the father is anymore

and two that often times the information required to collect the child support is hard to obtain because of men trying to stay off the grid

but mostly, child support has become like a money back guarantee,, its basically a system that gambles on the whether or not people will bother to 'follow through' on what they started,,,and sadly

many women dont,,,if it takes time, money, or effort,,,

I think other problems would arise if birth control was free for women.
What's the possibility of more women getting STD's because they are not worried about getting pregnant so they become more promiscuous. Wouldn't the cost of treating those be more expensive?

thats the issue of 'false security' I posted before

sometimes a false sense of security makes people behave less responsibly more often and causes OTHER problems,,,

Ms Harmony, I appreciate you position on most things but in this case, I just think it's a good idea to try to prevent as many unplanned pregnacies as possible.....regardless of liability.

I think it makes financial sense and is better in the long run for all involved.

I think the entire subject got complicated when Religion was injected into the the discussion....especially with the Catholic Church.

Funny how the GOP defends the Catholic church on this issue but when it come to immigration, they are worlds apart.

well, Id find it funnier if the gop agreed with the church on EVERYTHING,,lol

I dont even agree on everything with my mom who I love most in this world besides my children

but, in absence of the moral issue, there is still the financial issue of who pays and whether anyone but the one making the choice should be FORCED to pay,,,,

Your absolutely right...

SEX is a problem.
STD's are a problem.

Women should be required to wear burka's.
We should follow Sharia law.

That would solve everything.
