Fox News is considered the most uncivil network by Americans, according to a new survey.

Weber Shandwick, Powell Tate and KRC Research polled 1,000 people in April for their annual "Civility In America" study. Thirty-five percent of participants said that Fox News is "uncivil," while 53% described it as "civil."

CNN and MSNBC fared slightly better. Thirty-one percent considered MSNBC "uncivil" and 49% "civil." Thirty-one percent of respondents thought CNN was "uncivil," and 53% "civil." PBS was considered most civil of the networks.

The results did not bode well for news outlets overall. "A considerable 62% called out the media as uncivil in this year’s survey," the study reported. "While this is considerably lower than last year’s incivility rating of 74%, it ranks among the top five most uncivil aspects of American life."

A whopping majority of people (82%) also believe that the media is more interested in controversy than facts, and 55% of respondents said that they were tuning out of "news coverage and reporting" due to incivility.

we fool ourself into thinking we are 'advanced' while all the way losing all the natural strengths we were created to make use of,,,

our news loses its civility because it is dependent upon MONEY to function, it has to do what works to make the money for the sponsors,,, and in our culture, what is working,, is being uncivil,,,

Here, let me single it out for you, if you got 31% wrong on a test and 49% right, did you get more right than wrong, or did you get the "Most" wrong of all?

31% for uncivil and the numbers you have quoted are 49% say FOX is "civil".

And really now, they polled 1000 people??? LOL THAT'S official then!

You read a headline from the Huffington Post without verifying the data in the story. Just what SS keeps saying,
I love that pic on the liberal arguement in the other political post, too funny.

If you have an issue with the numbers, take it up with the company that did the poll.

I don't take most polls seriously, but this one made me laugh. And it got you all wound up. Sorry, the post was just for a little entertainment. laugh

No, now what I pointed out was that you copied a statement from the "Puffington Post" that was incorrect in its headline claims. The number actually show the reverse of what you posted. You took the poll seriously enough to make a post as if it was factual with out realizing the results of that poll actually FAVOR FOX. No where in your original post were you pointing out or making fun of the "Puffinton Post" for making an incorrect statement. Your original post appeared to be directed at FOX network. That is typical of the newsmedia, misleading the public. Now they look foolish.

If you actually read the OP, 35% consider Fox uncivil, as compared to 31% for both MSNBC and CNN. 35 is a larger number than 31. CNN and Fox tied with 53% saying they were civil. So yes, if you go by the percentages for uncivil, Fox wins.

Further along in the OP, it does say that 62% say that the media in general is uncivil.

So again, if you have issues with the numbers, take it up with the polling company. Either way, it's not something to get your panties in a twist over. I had a good laugh when I read it and have been laughing throughout the thread, as people are getting upset over it.

Fake Noise is about as credible as The Onion....and I think the Onion may actually contain more real news. Their people have to work to compile a laughable spin, Faux just creates it or spins it from another headline! laugh

Think people watch Faux more for the love of abuse, or perhaps to get their fair share of reinforcement to their own bias beliefs. Which they of course got from Faux in the 1st place.

Why does anyone watch or believe any corporate sponsored outlet, unless it fortifies their own views?

Murdock is corrupt and biased, known fact! Yet Faux is considered credible news? Just goes to show how programmed the world public is!

Confirmed: Fox News makes people dumb(er)

RT News After a study published last year labeled viewers of Fox News as grossly misinformed, the researchers who conducted the poll have expanded their work and now confirm, again, that the network’s audience might want to consider changing the channel.

Researchers at Fairleigh Dickinson University conducted a study last year that yielded some inarguably unsurprising information about Fox News’ viewership. At the time, researchers concluded that, based off of a study that sampled residents of New Jersey, people that only watch Fox News are less informed on current events than people that don’t watch cable news at all. Now only months later, the school’s researchers have published their finding of a similar study that calls on a sample of participants from coast-to-coast and, according to the results, confirm that their earlier report wasn’t a fluke.

According to the latest study, Americans who watch only Fox News to learn about current events are indeed less informed than most everyone else.

The report reveals that, on average, American’s are able to correctly answer 1.8 out of 4 questions on international news and 1.6 of 5 questions when quizzed on domestic issues. For those that disregard the television for taking in daily newscasts, they averaged 1.22 answers correctly.

Fox viewers, of course, were a different story.

“[S]omeone who watched only Fox News would be expected to answer just 1.04 domestic questions correctly – a figure which is significantly worse than if they had reported watching no media at all,” reveals the study.

“On the other hand, if they listened only to NPR, they would be expected to answer 1.51 questions correctly; viewers of Sunday morning talk shows fare similarly well. And people watching only The Daily Show with Jon Stewart could answer about 1.42 questions correctly.”

In last year’s New Jersey-centric study, the same researchers revealed that “people who watch Fox News are 18-points less likely to know that Egyptians overthrew their government” and “6-points less likely to know that Syrians have not yet overthrown their government” compared to those who watch no news.

“Because of the controls for partisanship, we know these results are not just driven by Republicans or other groups being more likely to watch Fox News. Rather, the results show us that there is something about watching Fox News that leads people to do worse on these questions than those who don’t watch any news at all,” Fairleigh Dickinson Professor Dan Cassino explained in an accompanying statement at the time back in November.

By broadening the study, though, can the university conclude that people that get there news from Comedy Central are more informed that Fox viewers? The short — and for now, seemingly indisputable answer — is yes.

Seems like you are getting your panties in a wad over this controversy, I could care less about the article, just like sticking to the facts....LOL

Surveys and polls always slant left, no surprise there.

Always?

A bit of hyperbole, it's impossible to prove "always". But typically, yes, polls and surveys lean left. The reason is that those on the right value their time too much to take polls and surveys.

Very astute observation.

It goes further than that. Polls are skewed 'right/left'. Not because of delibrate manipulation (allthough some of that exists also)...

Rather it is because the vast majority of the 'curve' of the public exist in the large 'bubble' of the conservative center...

Folks on the right extremes answer polls less often than do folks on the left extreme.

But both extremes answer polls.

The conservative (and independent) center does not (for the reason you stated.

During times of stress on the Nation the center has a tendency to do things the polls never warn of (because an accurate assement of the 'center' can not be received from a poll).

The poll misses the point.

News services are not supposed to be 'civil'. That would require them to 'gloss' the news.

They have a responsibility to REPORT it.

Being uncivil when faced with lies and deciet are a requirement of the Job...

It is sometimes the only way to get the truth to come out.
