DEVELOPING: Two people were shot dead and eight others wounded when a gunman opened fire near the Empire State Building in Manhattan, authorities said.

A law enforcement source told Fox News that the gunman, described as security guard, was a disgruntled employee who was fired Thursday from his job at a location either inside the Empire State Building or near it.

Authorities said the victims were shot just after 9 a.m. Friday and that the gunman was killed by police. A second law enforcement source told Fox News that one of the victims has died.

The FBI confirmed to FoxNews.com that they were on the scene investigating.

A security guard said he heard seven or eights shots fired in the shooting, which occurred at 34th Street and Fifth Avenue.

Witnesses reported that the gunman opened fire "indiscriminately."

"I heard gun shots and people started running," said witness Jacque Boothby. "I looked around and people were just laying on the streets."

having some of these assault weapons on the streets, is lik emaking cars that travel 300 mph. That doesnt mean we should outlaw CARS, just use common sense about what is a logical and practical standard when creating and selling them.
