What are your thoughts on tipping? I am against it. Managers at restaurants can more than afford to pay their staff more than minimum wage. Plus, there are thousands of people who work REALLY hard in all sorts of industries that nobody ever thinks about!!! THEY are the ones who deserve tips and gifts!!! Not people who take 30 seconds to make you a mixed drink. Watch this video!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WTAiWzxHALc

if managers DID pay people better, I would be less apt to tip

having been in the waitressing industry, I realize managers dont pay SQUAT most times when tips are in the equation and that these people are working harder than just the 30 seconds I see them at the table and trying to make a living just as much as the ones sitting at computers whom I NEVER see, operating switchboards, or performing customer service

I don't know how wide-spread that tipping is.
I rarely eat in a regular (non-fast-food) restaurant, but when I do, I try to leave a tip when I can.

I'm one of those people who always leaves a very generous tip...usually a dollar or two over what I SHOULD give.

Reality is that most servers depend on their tips because management dosent even give them mini.mum wage. So until that changes I will tip according to the quality of service I received.

There are some people who will tip even if the service is terrible, which I don't understand. And it is immature for a server to be upset when they receive a small tip or no tip because they receive decent ones throughout their shift that make up for it!!!

I like thinking when I tip people generously, that I may have just made their day. Sometimes I've even gone up and handed it to them, even though people say not to I like seeing them happy.

All I can say is get a job waiting tables for a while your attitude will change as far as tipping.

The way I see it if one does not like to tip then don't go where it is expected... smile2

I overtip because I was a waiter for two years in college and I know how hard the job is.

I will leave a good tip, unless the service was very poor, which rarely occurs to me.

Having waited tables in college, I am a 20%'er,
plus for attitude.

If the service is bad, I leave nothing, and will
probably mention something at the register.

Well its a tough job i can understand and the amount of tip matters a lot to those working in reality. They have a family to look after and take care so i guess tips are not bad as lmuch as we think. Just try to put yourself in their shoes sometime and you will understand why tipping is not bad.Well we humans are the biggest Hypocrites and as for cows i for one worship them and its a sin to kill cows in my view but everyone else has other opinions and their own viewpoint

In the US most servers don't even make minimum wage. Management starts them @ $3.00 to @3.50 an hour as their base salary. So servers do need to be tipped for good service. This is how many will take care of them selves and their families.

I have had friends who worked as waiters and waitresses. Tips really are important to them otherwise they don't make much money at all.

Mandy you have a good point i agree but it does not help anyone. Tipping is good for few who really need it beside their wage but we ourselves dont have time to see who actually needs it or not. Tipping an average amount is good as we too work hard to earn money

It's also not quite our decision to make whether or not someone really needs a tip. You don't know their situation, they could really need it or not. But just to be fair we should give at least a little bit if we can on the off chance that you are really helping someone.
