Is a committed partner a thing of the past? I used to think no, now im not so sure. Even when people say they are.

Think I should have been born in the 50's or 60's - anyone notice how relationships from then seem to last a lifetime.

I was born in the sixties, which means my 'relationship career' started somewhere end eighties.
As for people starting/having a relationship in those days, can't have been a walk in the park either. Birth-control had barely been invented, if you got (someone) pregnant, it meant marriage, whether you liked it or not. Divorce was not the done thing, if at all possible, so if you had a partner that made you miserable, you were stuck with him/her for life. Great! People didn't work to live, but lived to work. You had to produce offspring otherwise the priest or reverend would give you a good b*ll*cking.
First time sex after child nr 8 was weaned, and nr 9 is on it's way. Oh happy day! But hey, we were faithful! (really? We didn't really have a choice, did we?)

And the worst of all: NO tampons!!!!

At least now we have a choice, free will, we just have to learn to be responsible, learn deal with this freedom that our parents/grandparents and so on never ever had, but probably would have given their left arm for!

Interesting take Crystal, and not one I can argue with in any way. Guess my view was a bit biased from viewing older couples together, they always seem the happiest. But I guess thats the ones that were truly happy and not the ones that felt compelled to stay in an unhappy household.

Well, Scotland is on my list of places I wanna go to, pretty high up on the list as well. Would like to go to Edinburgh for starters.
And when in Scotland, I will indeed try it. I grew up with black pudding, chicken stomach/kidneys/heart in soup, so a bit of haggis can't be all that bad,

Black pudding is primarily blood! But believe it or not it is quite similar in taste to haggis, but not quite as good.

Edinburgh is a lovely city, steeped in history. It only has a population of around half a million people (although you would never know this walking around Edinburgh) strangely enough, compared to Glasgow's 2-3 million.

I live near a town called Paisley (where the pattern comes from!), which is roughly 10 miles outside Glasgow.

If your looking for History, then visit Edinburgh and Stirling. If your looking for something more cosmoplitan, visit Glasgow. Its now like a minature version of New York!

Anyway...lasting relationships....then and now....

Back then....You stayed in a relationship no matter if it was horrible or not because it was what was demanded in order to be accepted by society.

It didn't matter if there was abuse...You shut your mouth,bowed your head and put up with crap until you got lucky enough to die.

Lasting relationships now....

Is purely a mutual choice.

If you want a relationship to last...You actually have to work at it,make compromises...and realize that the outdated social standards of the past aren't gonna force your partner to stay with you.

Back then....once you hooked up...good or bad...You were stuck.

Nowadays...You better realize that if you think you get a free ride just cause you scored some tail...You are wrong.

If you ain't earning your love....You can and should get dumped.

What's a quiff? Everyone claims to be in committed relationships, when you mention open relationships one half usually gets jealous and says no. But when you committed one half usually cheats. And many people always try and throw an extra girl in the mix........not committing...
