I bought a new pair of shoes yesterday actually because my old ones had holes in the soles and my feet were getting wet when I stepped in puddles.

Larsson, when isn't it raining in Glasgow? So much for that weather forecast that you told me about the other week. All that we've had here is a bit of light drizzle.

I live near the Water Of Leith and I've heard about houses down there being flooded a few years ago but there's about as much chance of Arthur's Seat erupting again as there is of there being a big flood in Edinburgh that people need to pray about.

Have you ever climbed Arthur's seat?
I never heard of it so I GOOGLED It. Looks very interesting.
Glad all is well where you live.

Yes, the house where I lived when I was a kid was on the slopes of Arthur's Seat and I've been up there quite a few times but haven't climbed up there for years. I'm no climber and heights used to give me vertigo butt you can get up Arthur's Seat by just walking if you avoid the crags and steep slopes. I remember sitting up there with my family back in 1977 when the Queen had her silver jubilee parade here. We call the part of the town that Arthur's Seat is in "the park" and the castle is built on a rock that was the plug that came out of the volcano. I've climbed up the castle rock as well.

You can never really get lost in Edinburgh because you have those landmarks to help you get your bearings. We get a lot of tourists here but they mostly just come for the festival.

I have never in my life seen a Volcano erupt. It must be quite the site. Where you live sounds really nice .

My Dad was born in England ,the white cliffs of Dover. He died when I was only 14 ,but I still remember him talking about it.
Its a place I would love to see someday. Have you ever been there ?

Yes I have, on the Zeebrugge to Dover ferry, you see the white cliffs. Nice sight, cos you know that's you home in a sense, as the last part of the journey to Scotland, is only overland.

Is Dover affected by any of the floods?

I have a friend that lives Southend Scotland. Mull of Kintyre? Haven't heard from him today but yesterday he said they were towing car after car away to keep them from being swept away. Lots of prayers and be SAFE!

"Mull Of Kintyre"

Mull of kintyre
Oh mist rolling in from the sea,
My desire is always to be here
Oh mull of kintyre
Far have i traveled and much have i seen
Dark distant mountains with valleys of green.
Past painted deserts the sunset's on fire
As he carries me home to the mull of kintyre.

Mull of kintyre
Oh mist rolling in from the sea,
My desire is always to be here
Oh mull of kintyre

Sweep through the heather like deer in the glen
Carry me back to the days i knew then.
Nights when we sang like a heavenly choir
Of the life and the time of the mull of kintyre.

Mull of kintyre
Oh mist rolling in from the sea,
My desire is always to be here
Oh mull of kintyre

Smiles in the sunshine
And tears in the rain
Still take me back to where my memories remain
Flickering embers growing higher and higher
As they carry me back to the mull of kintyre

Mull of kintyre
Oh mist rolling in from the sea,
My desire is always to be here
Oh mull of kintyre

Mull of kintyre
Oh mist rolling in from the sea,
My desire is always to be here
Oh mull of kintyre

Sir Paul McCartney
I believe he honeymooned there with his late wife Linda and spoke of it
as their paradise.
I remember when the song came out in the 70s,I like to listen to this slow tune with the bagpipes playing all through it,now and then, it keeps me mellow. I will definitely go there as well as.. Ise of Man as my Nan's side is from there.

I would send all my love but my heart never left Europe, to my true home Continent and her people. history shows..your all f*n nuts..
to the old Countydrinker
Hi Betty waving whats going on in the east? How do you guys sleep at night..lol

Considering her mate stays in Essex, in England, where Southend actually is? Maps don't lie and the Mull of Kintyre, down the Campbeltown road is 89 miles from Glasgow and nearly 600 miles from Southend the way she speaks, just is fantasy! Take it from a Scotsman, who knows his country?

Doh, Southend ... bad memories. My ex left me standing their with barely 10 quid in my pocket, my phone battery was dead, didn't even have my passport on me, it was dark, raining, shops about to close and the *#&@)$&*_(#+%$) just walked off and let me standing there.
I'll never forget Southend, can tell you that much. And indeed very Essexy, lol

One day I'll have to go back there, just to get GOOD Southend memories, haha.

laugh Oh my. Don't worry. I'm sure they're not all like that. If you ever do visit the UK again, just don't watch 'The Only Way Is Essex'. It's a horrible depiction of londoner's. I can't watch it without wanting to throw my drink at my tv. The people on it are nothing desirable. I'd be surprised if any of them had a decent University degree. They make up such dumb sayings. And they look like they've been in a fight with orange dye. They have fake hair. Yada yada. I could only manage watching ten minutes of it. Never again ;)

Actually my friends profile says southend Scotland. Also he mentioned Mull of Kintyre and that he worked in Campbeltown. That is where he towed the cars. I didn't remember the name of that city until you mentioned it. ;-). my guess would be southend is what he used to describe the part of Scotland he lived in and I misused it. (I'm so glad God is forgiving of me and my mistakes because others sure aren't.) Oh well I'm learning. Anyway its beside the point. The point was to show concern for my friend (a fellow mingler) and offer well wishes to all involved. still praying!

@ Carebear, you're right, it wasn't about that. But at least we have now all learned there are at least two Southends in the UK, lol

And everyone please now shut up about Kintyre, Mull of Kintyre and friggin Paul McCartney. Always hated the effing song. Must haven been nr 1 in the charts for some 8 years, lol, so I heard it a tad too much. I could handle Crazy Horses, but shoot-me-in-the-head Mull of Kintyre, bah

I seem to remember that it was voted number one on a TV show about the top ten lamest pop novelty records a while back.

Thanks for showing concern. You people are wonderful. flowers. At the moment, it's pretty dry, yet everyday is now unpredictable in the weather stakes. We are getting lots of rain. I often mistake the noise of the rain, for thinking someone is using the shower. lol. And there's a stomach virus going around, so that's nice :O Not gonna let a bit of water get me down. There's a few housing shelter's round this way. Thankgod :)

Lets hope you won't have to use those shelters.
It is good you have that option though if need be.

We are facing flooding ourselves here today. It is going to warm up drastically causing major melting. But the temps. are going to go down again and all the puddles will freeze up again. Going to be a real mess they say.

It was a really nice day here today. Just a bit of light drizzle when I was coming back from the bus stop.

Sorry. I know that it's not funny but I'm sure that Frankie Boyle would do a joke about it, like he did about the flood in the Bible and how if you came to Scotland saying that it had rained for forty days and forty nights we would just say that that's nothing and it's like that here all the f**king time.

well I truly believe if you lose your sense of humour your recovery in hard times are much harder.
So ..keep smiling people...better times are ahead.
