Every connection between two people is different. The bonds and commitments created are unique. Forget the PC crap!

Hmmmmm.
Well, tis the testing time.
But I suppose I always assume it will be long-term
as I would have to like them an awful lot to date them.

dating is not a commitment

And a commitment is not a relationship.
And a relationship and/or a commitment does not mean you don't have to act like you would on a date.

Would You Always Expect It To End Up Long Term?

No. But conversely I wouldn't always expect it to not end up long term.

At What point Would Anyone Expect it To Be Not Just Another Date??

I can only speak for myself.
I don't know what "anyone" would expect.
Especially since people view dating, commitments, and relationships different at LEAST based on their gender, social status, and culture.

So I don't think there is a universal answer or anything that can be offered as to what point it "should" be.

Otherwise you are asking "at what point can you simply take it for granted that they are going to stick around so you don't have to try that hard, you're 'safe' in a 'relationship?'"

And IMO that almost always subsequently leads to bad things for a relationship.

There's expecting it to work out and then there's being committed to trying and treating them as if it is a relationship. I feel committed to something if I get involved with a woman. I don't really regard myself as single anymore when I've got a girlfriend.

dating is not a commitment,
until both parties agree they are in a committed relationship

dating is the getting to know each other phase that determines what type of relationship is best suited for you, be it friendship, commitment, or acquaintances,,,

Thanks for explaining what "dating" is. Not being an American I wouldn't have known that and I suppose that we do things differently here because I most certainly do consider it to be a relationship when I'm seeing a woman regularly and sleeping with her. For all that I know, what you mean by "dating" is just chatting and I would agree that that's not a relationship.

For me, that's a bit like asking:-
'If you meet a person at the bus-stop and you get along, do you become friends for life or is it just a nice way to get through the bus journey until one of you gets off...'

As you can see, there is no easy answer to the above because it depends on how the connection progresses....

Same for dating. It depends.
Don't sweat the small stuff.

For me, dating is a lovely fun stage of getting to know him, and letting him get to know me... chillaxing...us getting loved-up... deep meaningful conversations interspersed with goofy moments...discovering our likes and dislikes...creating our own world...

that is true. thanx for pointing that out,, not everyones idea of 'dating' is the same

dating for me has nothing to do with sex, most of those I have 'dated' have been platonic

for me, if sex is in the equation, its gong to be a commitment where we see each other exclusively and regularly,, and stops being just 'dating'

doting can mean more to one than the other, sometimes you have to remind some that its was just a date, not a mirrage perpolsale

The way I see it the only commitment you have when dating is to show up for that one particular date. It does not guarentee any future dates. I have been dating for a couple years and have never made a commitment
