I wish I knew what to tell you
my son is high funcioning asperger's
he can get kind of intense when I am not nearby
heck he can get that way when I am but I know how to distract him
get him back on track

He has not spent a night away from me except if it is with his dad.
He tried going to his cousins for a weekend..last year
he is 14 years old by the way
I drove him down state and got a phone call at bedtime
he was very upset and needed his own bed and his own room
so down I drove to pick my boy up

does it make it harder to date? yes it does with a high needs child but I always tell myself I am mom first happy

So all those single full time parents out there, how do you deal with the loneliness. Between work and kids I feel very lonely sometimes.

I was a single parent for 5 years. I know where you are coming from. What did I do to overcome the loneliness?

I started to hang out with my coworkers out of the work environment.

Every Friday, I would ride my bicycle down to the local bar for happy hour.

I visited foreign lands, drove expensive cars, sported a James Bond pistol. I read many a Spy Novel. In between child raising, I would pick up where I left off on the spy novel I was reading at the time.

I was still lonely at times, but not as much once I started doing the above.

Good Luck and I hope this helps you. happy

every night spend at least two hours doing something you enjoy it could be reading a book, sewing, painting or drinking some good wine or watching a really good film. the point is make every evening about you and every day about them until they are older then you may be able to socialize more if sitting isn't readily available now.

good advice
it's important for us to remember to re-fuel sometimes and give ourselves permission to have a little down time

we are not parent machines ..we sometimes forget that fact happy

I love New Zealand...I went there for 18 days and that was not long enough. Accents are great too!
When you put the kids to bed, invite a woman over....you can watch a no is, no babysitter needed.

Is there someone closer that you can trust and you could trade babysitting hours with? You also need time out. It helps to recharge your batteries.

It's hard to get people for babysitting my son. The government in my country gives me 52 hours per year respite care for my son for me to have a break and I make the most of it. He goes to a special needs career during that time.

That is why if you have a special needs child you network with other parents of special needs children. They know what your needs are and you can barter trade and swap nights for a multitude of reasons.
Believe me I would have never met my late husband if it were not for my informal "Exceptional Child Group" that orchestrated my birthday party. And I was more than glad to return the favor. Did I have to learn to do some things I was unfamiliar with; like tube feed or how to cook special diets ? Sure but the lasting friendships and freedom to occasionally have something near a normal social life were more than worth it

Believe me if a nice lady finds you have the right stuff she will work around your dating barriers.

I look on sites, tell the world im here, but no one wants a father of 5 kids, i dont blame them really lol, but apart from sites, i pass my time by creating music and playing games (gees that sounds boring lol)
