My friend told me the grocery store is a good place to pick up dates. Do you agree? Do you plan on looking your best when you go to the grocery store? Do you practice your pick up lines before you go to the grocery store? Has anyone had any luck?

Not a place I've ever considered.

There is no magic place to meet another person but almost all places are ok if you have the right social skills and are an assertive person. A counselor can teach these people skills very quickly and for little money and the benefits make more opportunities than you can find. When you hesitate you lose and this is equally true for glas who foolishly wait for males to make overtures/ Assume more control over your life and learn how to self present its a skill needed in many contexts work, play, church, anywhere. Fear of rejections is the general issue but once faced many new people and corresponding choices become available..

Been told there's a lot of single guys around closing time, when they've finished work and need to get food in for dinner. Closing time is 5-6 o'clock.
Haven't given it a go myself, cos if I go to the supermarket around that time, I'm in a hurry myself

I have heard this and a few months back I was a GF shopping for a BBQ this guy tried hitting on me..."try" is the word here.. I had no clue til we were actually prepping food.. gf was chuckling.. she told me I am such an airhead when the said guy asked me what eggplant looked good. He wasn't talking about the egg plant at all. laugh When I handed him one there ya go... His look was priceless I missed it.

Hitting on my at a store is probably the least successful for me since I have a mission I want in and out.. I have a mission, get what I need, dodge little kids screaming in middle of aisle, teenager playing in the shopping carts, then the elderly that have those battery chairs. Nope the last thing I am looking at is men..

When I go to the grocery store I want to get my grocery shopping done, not flirt. If my kids are with me, then I want to get it done before they make me buy everything. If I am by myself, I am shopping without time to have a conversation. Even in the check out line. My friend just walks up to a woman and talks to her about what she is buying and then says something witty about her. He says that I miss out because I have guys flirt with me and I just want to get home

This reminds me of the Happy Days episode where Fonzie is teaching Richie how to gets dates, and he takes Richie to the grocery store. One of his tips was to ram your cart into hers as a way to break the ice.

Apparently you eat food? What a coincidence! I eat food! What are the odds of finding someone I have so much in common with here?

Is that how it works? I'm not looking to pick up women when I go grocery shopping. If I'm doing more specialized shopping, maybe. For example, I love firearms, so if I'm going to buy some ammunition and there is a woman checking out the guns, I may strike up a conversation. Or if I'm at the music store to have my guitar restrung and a woman is checking out an instrument, maybe I'll talk to her. But I'm really not that interested in a conversation about a mutual taste for a particular brand of green beans.

YES.. to all your questions.
Except I don't use pick up lines.

Actually, there have been a couple of instances where a nice lady would hit on me in the store and I wouldn't recognize it at first, but when she would extend the conversation and press for information, I would "catch on". Sadly, when this happened I was with a significant other so I couldn't (and wouldn't) take advantage of the opportunity.

There have been other, "open opportunities" to have conversations in the grocery store and I see patterns.

Here are some observations.

Women who are single and available tend to shop more slowly and more thoughtfully than women who are "taken". Single women with kids may not fit this description, but single women without kids do.

Older available women are more likely to strike up a conversation in the grocery than the younger ones.

You are more likely to hold their attention if you know how to cook (I do). The usual startup conversation is usually food related. If you don't know the difference between a Hass Avocado and a California one, you are not of much help or use.

Since this is a dating site, I would recommend people shop with an open mind. Most everyone eats. Be friendly and don't be afraid to strike up a conversation. "Is this coffee creamer any good?" "Have you tried these new Jazz apples?" (Jazz apples are great!)

It can't hurt.

Really??? Then why are so many here stating that it is hard to find someone?

Do you think it is because we are too busy to notice?
