I own all of King's books. Since the 80's I've been buying all of his stuff in hard back as soon as its released. If you haven't yet I highly recommend 11/22/63, Bag Of Bones, Duma Key, Dr. Sleep (which is a sequel to The Shining), Joyland, and though not horror Mr. Mercedes. King's son Joe Hill has written some excellent books- Horns, and NOS4A2. Some other authors in the horror field I like- Robert R McCammon (If you like The Stand, you might like Swan Song, which is McCammon's epic Stand-like post-apocalypse novel.) McCammon's book Boys Life is a fantastic coming of age novel that blends fantasy, mystery, and horror. And if you like werewolves, The Wolf's Hour. James Herbert is excellent (The Magic Cottage is probably my favorite of his) Dan Simmons' Summer Of Night, and the sequel A Winter Haunting. Some other excellent horror novels: Richard Laymon's The Stake Joan Sampson's The Auctioneer Tom Tryon's The Other, and Harvest Home Michael McDowell's The Elementals and The Amulet John Farris' The Fury, and All Heads Turn When The Hunt Goes By Jack Ketchum's Dead River Trilogy (Off Season, Offspring, The Woman), also The Girl Next Door. |
