What do expect from people who don't have a sense of humour and can't take a joke? I agree with Franky 100%!

http://capitalismmagazine.com/2015/05/provocation-is-freedom-of-speech/

...................The First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution is quite clear:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

How is any legal body whether it's a human rights commissionor anything else, such as a judge, a jury, or a President or Governor issuing an order to justify itself in light of the Constitutional prohibition against restraining free speech?

By what moral right does the government of a free country limit free speech, in the name of a vaguely defined fine line that can only mean its restriction?

Well, I don't know where that fine line exists. But drawing cartoons offensive to Muslims is definitely over that line.Interestingly, the same people who claim this do not claim the equivalent for Christians or other groups. Why does Islam get this protection and not other groups? Why should any group have this protection?

If the CNN interviewer merely wishes that Geller and her associates had used more caution, and not held the conference, for their own personal safety, then she should have said so. She made the issue one of free speech by bringing it up, in this way. People who smugly make these claims should be forced to defend them; they rarely are, and almost always refuse to do so, even when challenged..............................

Uh, that Wizbang blog post was written by a blogger who relied on the infamous World Net Daily tabloid for his information.

WND, in turn, relied on a controversial pollster who has a very poor reputation as a pollster, one who has produced grossly-inaccurate polling data.

No, I don't trust that cited poll.

WND itself is infamous for reporting false claims. I find that site to be untrustworthy.

By the way, I'm also a blogger at Wizbang.
I was blogging there before the aforementioned blogger started blogging there.

Many people, of many backgrounds
have wanted to shut down free speech.
When it didn't suit their purpose.

I've always figured that 'if' a person
truly dislikes, things American...
They're more than welcome to gtfo.

actually hate speech is a crime (United States) but I do not know the details. Also there is liable. Your free speech cannot falsely defame.

Rockgnome, it isn't just Americans though mate who have free speech though? We have it in the UK and a lot of countries in Europe, Australia, New Zealand, etc, also! I actually think that the US, has less free speech, than your government admits to, as very sneakily they are taking your rights away, piece by piece? It's happening here in the UK, too, but it seems to us here where I stay, that Obama, has a total disdain for the American people and the constitution also? He's ruining your country?

2011. Snyder vs Phelps

The Supreme Court ruled 8-1 hate speech was protected under the first amendment as long as it didn't promote imminent violence.

well I doubt ALL muslims agree on this ...just like ALL Christians do not think alike.

More educated, perhaps more reasonable Muslims will know enough about our Constitution to realize how silly this sounds/is.

When people of another culture move here sometimes they want to make changes. They must do it lawfully. It is a learning curve for those from totalitarian or despotic countries because they have little experience working WITHIN the system to change things.

To make changes in America, one has to create laws. Laws (not opinion) guide how we must behave. Laws in America must be "Constitutional" meaning they must not violate the tenets of that document. (Could someone let Barrack in on this please)lol

A law against free speech would violate the constitution so that is not going to happen.

But keep in mind, that this same document allows Muslims to practice their faith. That is protected by the Constitution (see Conrad's post).

I'm not spelling this out for you franky. i am sure you know these things, but for any non Americans who may not understand.

right so the KKK can parade and hold rallies (speeches) but their speech cannot provoke violence. Sounds about right....this all went on in Cincinnati a few years ago but again I can't recall all the details. Cincy is pretty conservative ...they outlaw whatever they want....kinda like a north Texas outpost lol (JK)

I am also thinking there is more case law... I really think the jury is probably still out on this. There is usually enough case law in these types of discussions to support more than one outlook jmho

I didn't pay any attention to the background of the source I cited.

Anyway, Wenzel Strategies is clearly in bed with the right-wing extremist tabloid World Net Daily, which has repeatedly promoted false claims.

I consider it a mistake to base a claim only on what that particular site says.

Also, I am not alone in my distrust of Wenzel Strategies.

See FiveThirtyEight's Pollster Ratings.
