IMO, men in general don't like to simply smile in pics.
I don't really think they are "trying" to look mean or unhappy.

I agree with Tmommy about the other pics scared ....I would much rather see an unsmiling face rather than those she mentioned.shades

Why do I see so many men who have an unhappy main profile picture? They often look angry. I really don't like to respond to someone who looks so mean.

You are obviously in the wrong section of Mingle Profiles......go to the "Real men have fun and enjoy outdoors life" section, you may see photos of dead fish and critters we get, but you will see healthy men who smile and enjoy a healthy lifestylebigsmile

I think more women would respond if they see a picture with a smile. Sometimes I pass on someone only because they look like a grouch.

I'm smiling in my pic.
Some chicks just don't like clowns.

I love clowns it is the scary looking ones that make me cringe.

Oh and he has such a great voice too. Wouldn't it be cool to be able to hear peoples posts in their own voice? I know I know offtopic .

Just a guess, from the point of view of ONE guy.

The thing is with me, I see my damn face every morning when I scrape it with the sharpest objects I can afford. I don't cruise around looking for opportunities to snap any MORE pictures of myself, so when someone or something (like a website) demands that I provide a picture, the only ones I can choose from, are bathroom mirror selfies (NEVER a good look), or the official ID photos that I had to have made for employers and law enforcement officials.

The one I've got now, was sent me by a friend who took pictures of my band playing.

Yea I kind of feel the same way. A picture does not have to be up to the minute to give me an impression but if the body language is real tense then I am going to have so many options to pick someone smiling to communicate with I will naturally opt for the pleasant experience.

With the cameras so easy to even add to older computers I don't know why more people don't just post me at the computer shots. Now days most are built right in.

LOL on second thought if you all post like I SOMETIMES do then that might be scary.

I have always wondered the point of mean photos too

then, I considered it may be reverse psychology

that is,, when you put the worst of you out there first, and they are still interested,, its pretty much all uphill from t here,,

OK, so because I'm smiling in mine, does that mean the end result will be disappointing and it will all be downhill sad

What goes up, must come down remember ohwell

Not sure who said that, was it Newton, that guy was stoopid anyway lmao

"Men always" anything is not going to fly with me. Sorry know too many men to say they are that predictable.

One thing I have found however is usually if you see a guy really scowling and just blast them with your best knock dead killer smile, maybe a toss of the hair, they tend to "SNAP OUT OF IT" real quick.

Not everybody lives in a world of roses and champagne.
There are some places where roses never grow, and people don't even have the luxury of even cheap beer.
and it's not that they don't want to smile.
It's that sometimes they literally just can't because they've been beaten down by life's experience so much, it robs them of their joys, hardens them, twists them into shadows of their former selves.
It's not the most attractive photo sometimes, I know.
But there are times in life that I can relate to them.
Everyone can relate to it on some level, I feel.

I think this statement is pretty much right. Without telling to much, I've been through a lot the past 10 years or so. When you go through a lot of bad stuff, Well, The best way I can explain it, it does something to you. It takes something out of you. Sometimes you may regain it later on in life. And then again, you may never get it back.

I use to smile a lot. But somewhere in my life that smile turned into a grin. Or what some might call a smirk. Also, With the job I use to do you get to see the bad side of people. Really, mostly bad. And since I started being a moderator on another site much bigger than this one. I've seen a lot of sick puppies. All I know is I'm not the same person I use to be. And just all around life did it to me.

Your profile and your pics are a mission statement about who you are that you are sharing with world
like elevator speech you only get so much space so you need to make it count

no one is assuming you have not dealt with hardship or troubles but if you cannot even manage a smile and fill your profile full of belly aches and complaints then why on earth would a woman want to get to know you?

I personally don't care unless they are showing south of the border.. I do like to see more than one picture. I also have to agree with TMOM...
A profile is your full page ad to grab and snag our attention whether it is male or female...

So if you have one or two profile shots that look like you are in great pain, pisst at the world, or hungover, or with your chest falling out ladies.. Usually going to pass them by unless the profile is awesomely wrote...

I hate having my picture taken absolutely hate it. The one selfie on my profile took me 6x to get one decent shot. The rest are from people taking them for me and me NOT knowing it was happening til too late. So insaying that I tend to be a bit more lenient in profile pictures.

I see a lot of pictures where I actually feel afraid of the person. I read where most men and women want to see a happy face, and no sunglasses.
