One year after repair, truss rod adjusted, strings on it and tuned. Lots of playing to stress the neck. I sprayed it with some poly so the open wood wouldn't get stained while I was playing it. Now its ready for stain matching and re-sprayed with the clear. The neck has been stable for a year now, amazing what a little tightbond will do and clamping it into a homemade neck jig. Look how straight that neck is now. When I finish the staining you won't be able to tell the neck was so badly broken. I'll update the pics of it when I complete it. So Yeti as you can see your beautiful dulcimer can be repaired quite easily. :)

Gorgeous work Searay. Once you stain it the repair will be all but invisible. Nice job.

Thanks Miss T, I hope this gives Yeti the motivation to fix that dulcimer by taking it to a pro. He won't regret it. waving

That's awesome searay! Great work on that, I admire your patience and handy work. Definitely gives me hope on that dulcimer. I found a luthier just 20 minutes from me, he was a woodworker/furniture maker and has restored some vintage guitars. I'll be taking it in for an estimate this week probably. Pretty excited thinking about playing it again, also about getting out of my slump and playing guitar and banjo more often.

sounds like just the right person to take it too, considering the guy that made the dulcimer was a fine furniture maker as well

Ok Yeti, remember where you thought it may be better to just buy a low level SG? Here's my Epi SG pro 400 that I picked up at an estate sale for a song. I stripped out the guitar and added all the goodies. The electronics came from a SG standard. I use this guitar for shredding lol

I added a roller bridge, Seymour Duncan invader pick ups, and the tenion plate marked SG Custom came from an early SG.

I got rid of the crappy tuners and added Schaller precision tuners with the black tulip tuners to match the headstock. Just to fancy it up a bit I also added the nickel plated and black enamel truss rod cover. Plays just like a SG standard. Love the Invader pickups.

Mine, I'm sure it could use some upgrades. What really bothers me is how heavy the neck is, when I use a strap I can't let go of the neck or else it slides down.

Mine doesn't do that its really well balanced. It may be the heavier electronics, roller bridge and especially the Duncan invaders which are really heavy that balances my guitar. The epi pickups are quite light and so is the bridge on your SG. Also compare the necks mine looks a lot thinner than yours, is yours the special edition?

I had a dulcimer at one time, and only learned a song or two before I passed it on. The song that I played is an easy song.THE WILDWOOD FLOWER by Maybelle Carter. I was lucky to have gotten to see Maybelle play years ago in Kentucky....Not long ago I was at the same park in Kentucky, and talking with a park ranger there. It turned out he had been to the same festival some 40 years ago,and we made an instant connection....We both agreed...Those were different times..

Very nice work Sea ray,I wish there was a luthior of your talents near me.People who have that level of talent are getting harder to find it seems.
I want to try to file the frets on my old Alvarez, and you have given me a bit of inspiration.

I heard a recording of yeti playin his dulcimer before the head split. Such a tranquil instrument, very calming to play I imagine. Makes me want to get one now LOL. I was also reading that they use a turkey feather quill to pick it... anybody know if that's true?
