Houston 911 Operator Charged Over Hanging Up on Callers

A former Houston 911 operator is facing criminal charges for hanging up on callers because "she did not want to talk to anyone," according to Houston Police investigators.

Crenshanda Williams, 43, faces two misdemeanor charges of Interference with Emergency Telephone Call stemming from incidents in March.

According to charge documents filed with the Harris County Court, Williams worked for the Houston Emergency Center where managers determined that she was involved in thousands of "short calls" — emergency calls that last less than 20 seconds — between Oct. 2015 and March 2016.

In one case, Williams allegedly hung up on a man who called to report a robbery in progress March 12.

Hua Li told NBC affiliate KPRC that he had been buying lottery tickets at a convenience store when a gunman entered and tried to force his way through the door of a glassed-in security area behind the counter. As two clerks attempted to block the door, Li says he ran from the store and heard several gunshots. When he got to his car, he called 911 for help.

"They just said, 'This is 911. How can I help you?' I was trying to finish my sentence, and we got disconnected," Li said.

Police said that Williams was the 911 operator, and that she terminated the call within a few seconds.

Li called a second time and got a different operator. By the time police arrived, however, the store manager had been shot and killed.

Perhaps because she felt only black lives matter?

"Misdemeanor charges"? A person , maybe more, died as a result of her actions.... or inactions!

That is despicable. The person should have been charged.

I know they have a incredibly tough job.. pure stress. But people's lives are on that line... and you hang up on them????

That is inhumane

She's not the only one who done that or something similar. Cops hang up on people all the time. One female cop hung up on me just a couple oof months ago.
One reason why our world is so f@cked up is that there're too many incompetent people placed in position of responsibility because of Affirmative Action or by friends or family instead of hiring the qualified person for the job. Happens everyday.

we do have too many incompetent people, because they are hired due to who they know or what references they provide, what school they attended, who their family is on the one end and because society tells people that barring these privileges, ANY job should be accepted,,,,

its either accept a job you may suck at or be on 'welfare',,,we know which society looks down upon the most,,,

if we had the combination of people applying for the jobs in which they are suited AND employers hiring only suitable employees,, things would be much better

Italy tries to train their kids from 15 training in an occupation, we train ours how to incur debt with worthless 'classes'

I could go on forever

but , we do need to teach people to have more focus on what their skills actually are and pursue them
