The number and rate of abortions tallied by federal authorities have fallen to their lowest level in decades, according to new data released Wednesday.

The latest annual report by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, incorporating data from 47 states, said the abortion rate for 2013 was 12.5 abortions per 1,000 women aged 15-44 years. That is down 5 percent from 2012, and is half the rate of 25 recorded in 1980.

The last time the CDC recorded a lower abortion rate was in 1971, two years before the U.S. Supreme Court's Roe v. Wade decision that established a nationwide right for women to have abortions. Abortion was legal in some states at that time.

Don't get me wrong I think the news is great. But I think the federal data is is always false. Last time we had it like this was before the FED started counting abortions. Now that the feds have made it so that poor women are being turned away from abortion centers or having abortion centers completely removed. So of course the numbers would be lower. But the fact is low education and low-income folks will still get pregnant and unfortunately they will still have abortions so the feds waving a flag saying hey great abortion rates are down really should be translated as a great the a****** federals have made it so that women who need an abortion can no longer get one because of the Fed so they have to go and find their own way to get their own abortions so I wouldn't be waving the flag over this day that it just proves the US government incompatibility to the needs of its citizens. I'm pro-choice but removing the option of abortion is also not good because these young women are going to do what they feel is right and if they feel that they want to get an abortion we should make it so that they can safely have one. Not some Alleyway Doctor Who does abortions for $25 and puts the future of the woman's reproductive cycle in complete Jeopardy. In my opinion

I am not sure what fed intervention is being referred to

Planned Parenthoods are available all over the country for the impoverished

That is due to they have cut funds for abortions and shut down a lot of clinics, these surveys never tell of all the black market abortions that will be on the increase due to cutting funds and shutting down clinics..

many things impact rates, good and bad things,,but its still great to hear that it is declining

The CDC report suggests there are several factors behind the abortion decline, including a sharp drop in adolescent pregnancies, expanded coverage of contraception costs by health care plans, and increased use of effective, long-lasting contraceptive methods such as intrauterine devices and hormonal implants.

Like anything the Feds have put a lot more restrictions or guidelines in place. A big factor is many clinics have been shut down do to controversy. There aren't as many Doctors willing to do abortions, especially in out laying areas. Many younger people are waiting longer tohave sex, they have the "morning after pill" now, and birth control is more easy to obtain, all good things. The numbers are low, but it works out on average that 1/3 of women will have an abortion in their lifetime. That numbers not really real because some will have multiple. I'm pro-choice and would rater see an abortion then an unwanted child, or a child with major health problems,or endangering a women's life for a child. I'm not sure there are a lot of underground coat hanger abortions going on at this point and time, but if things continue to go in this direction its very likely there will be an increase and we will not know what's going on with them. So "Good News" maybe should have been left out of the title.

Good news for who? And who is the judge of this? Dead people are dead, they don't have feelings, they are dead. Are you saying terrorist shouldn't be dead? Many people in prison wouldn't be better off dead? People in chronic pain may be better off dead? Everyone is going to die sooner or later, and we have come to the point where we do whatever we can to keep everyone alive as long as we can, but is this always the right way to look at things? There was a time when death was more acceptable, we still kill animals to eat them and make our lives better. Humans just keep getting more, and more greedy. But the real reason I said it wasn't necessarily good news is because we know that if it can't be done legally that some will turn to underground sources that may be unsafe as we've seen in the past. Yet others may chose to take their own lives so they don't have to deal with it.

Americans nor the rest of the world, is NOT becoming more moralistic or spiritual.

Any more than Planned Parenthood is or the Dems who take our tax dollars to fund them.

If it wasn't sad, it would be amusing
