He must also remember that not all people (myself included) can make a great meal--that's what good restaurants are for, in that case.

That is also what Hamburger Helper is for.
At least that is what the commercials used to say.

Meals and dining out are associated with the COST OF DATING..
If you ask me out, yes, you are paying the bill..After a couple dates, I'd probably offer to cook you a meal..
If we're talking just a meet'n greet at a coffee shop, then I'd buy my own.

Why is it that more and more woman online think they have millions of options and choices? They seem to have a false sense of entitlement. Also where are the ladies that will stop accepting free meals and offer to cook for a man for once or at least offer to go dutch at dinner, its getting out of hand you go to dinner with a man thats not your type then order up a storm just to take it to go. Then you wonder why?
..well.well.. I think what we have here is what is known as a Country Gentleman..... and for the most part I agree.. there was a time when a lady would offer to cook a gentleman a home cook meal..
Knowing that he is a bachelor and probably eats a lot of low quality restaurant food... because he cannot cook for himself... being the poor helpless Bachelor.. maybe she might even offer to darn his socks well at it..
.... but sadly long gone are those bygone years ..lol... the good graces of a true lady...yup... nowadays..some ladies not all !!..but some do take advantage of a gentleman's hospitality and generosity...
Will take him..up on the offer of dinner.. even know!! full well she is not romantically interested in him...
Leading him on so to speak...
But what are you going to do? A girl's got to eat...lol

There are still classy Ladies out there. I can cook, darn socks (if needed lol) I am also happy to go dutch if out for a meal. I dont dress like a tart ever. but i can also maintain and repair my cars, do electrical and pumbing work. Do these skills make me less of a lady?

I don't think being willing or insisting on going Dutch will put you in the category "classy lady". Personally think it will even work against you.
If not mistaken the OP was talking about being taken advantage of. That is not about 'who pays the bill?' but the intention behind it.

A lot of women these days pride themselves in telling about the things they can do themselves, boasting about it, which is not really 'classy lady' at all. Okay, sometimes you have no choice when single, fair enough. And maybe you like building a barn. Fair enough.
But when with a man, you gotta let a man be a man and let him do the man-things for you. That doesn't mean you can't do any so called man-stuff anymore. It does mean you got to let him do at least some masculine things so you don't emasculate him. A man likes to do things for his woman. If you rob him of that, you rob him of his masculinity, and yourself of your femininity.

Humm I do as well.... any time I have met someone for the first meet I have always told them prior as we were deciding where to go that it was dutch due to I prefer it that way..on the first meet

Actually had one guy that grabbed my check from me for I had asked the waitress to put it on separate checks in the beginning. I told him again I would rather pay for mine he said he wanted to so I let him..whoa Then when he asked if I wanted to go out again I refused there was no connection at all.. He got pissed and threw it up in my face I just wanted a free meal~~~~slaphead

I'm not one to sit back and not say nothing so I did go off on him telling him that I had not only asked for separate checks but he had grabbed it out of my hand and that no where in the conversation did it come up I would even consider going out with him... well and a bit more... And that I could show him the e-mail of me saying I prefer dutch and just casual conversation to see if we had anything in common~~~~

One time I went to my folks cabin on North Shore,
Tahoe (Incline) my stepmother said 'The pantry
is loaded' so we took no food.

Got there in the middle of the snowy night starved,
opened the pantry and there were about 70 boxes
of Hamburger Helper.

No hamburger mind you.
That was her idea of a 'stocked' pantry.
I canna even sneak up on that stuff.
