Who wants to hook up with someone who is not romantic and you don't have chemistry online to start with.

Exaxctly.

If someone can't express themselves *reasonably* well in writing, that shows they lack intellect. (you may disagree, but studies have proven this)

Conversation is give-and-take...and if they can't manage that online when they have time to think about what they are writing, I have found (in *my* experience, your may be different) that they arem't any better in person where they need to thibnk "on the fly"..
This is the beginning of what i think people mean whwen they say "chemistry" (for *me*..you may be different)
If I have to pry conversation out of you..why bother?

As far as romantic...there are things people can say, or hint at in conversation that show they have a romantic streak.. flowerforyou

It all starts with the online communication....and then (hopefully) goes from there...

Some people use lots of words but say nothing; others use very few words but speak volumes!!

Well, if all a guy can manage is one or two word replies...there's no point in meeting.

Distance matters.

I won't do an LDR.

And, locals are pretty much S.O.L. too

I wouldn't say "anything" isn't worth traveling for.
The pyramids of Egypt.
The Louvre.
The Great Wall of China.
The Colosseum in Rome.
The Rocky Mountains in Colorado.
...
But a woman?? Not as unique as those things enumerated above.

Lets be real here.

Some people don't have the disposable income, or can't get the time off work, or don't have reliable transportation, or are afraid to fly...

TWO people who have been chatting a while, and are working on a way to be together is far different from expecting someone to go off on a jaunt to meet someone they just started talking to on the outside chance they might have something in common/ click with each other..

If someone is fortuante enought o be able to travel anywhere with short notice...be thankful you have that abilty...and don't be judgey.

I just had a guy yesterday on another site say "Great potential, but xxxxxxxxxx is pretty far from me. "

My city (the xxxxxxxxx, I hid it) is 50 miles from him..
I was just there last Friday, and will be there agin Sunday, and probably one or two more time this month..

But dude is yet another one who thinks anything more than 15-20 miles is "too far"...

In some parts of the country, 15-20 miles or more is just "going to town", had to get........

Ive had 3 or 4 friends who have made the successful cross-over from long distance relationship to marriage and co-habitation over 2 to 3 year spans, as their partners organized themselves for migration... And they are all very happy.happy

For myself, I'm open to the idea, but the caveat is that I would only take the risk with someone I felt amazing chemistry and compatibility with over time.

It's not lost on me how difficult that combo is to find . While there's very little chance of the long-distance relationship thing working out based on statistics, some individuals are simply worth the risk winking

It is a deal breaker. Tried it and too difficult. Nice to be able to get together with sweety thru the week.

I can also say Distance doesn't have to matter. I met this girl in a chat room and we became friends. Now she was over 6500 miles away in New Zealand while I was in California. We talk thru the chat room & a few phone calls over 6 months. Then I found she was vacationing in England with a lay over in LA. I talked her in to coming to visit me & she never made it to England. She passed away after a near 20 yr marriage.

Very sorry aboyt your loss but this is surely one if the most romantic love stories Ive ever heard :)
